Steven Tackett | 66 comments I know I'm silly in saying this but: Is it said I'm already ready for the week 4 book? I just finished my 3rd book for this years challenge. What's crazier is I've probably only read about 10 books in the past 2 years. Considering its only 8 days into the new year and I'm starting book 4... its crazy to me.

Nikki Day (nikkiday) I don't think there's such thing as reading too fast! It's better to be ahead than be behind like I am already haha. I'm still on my first book coz I only found the challenge yesterday.

At least you'll have spare time to read other books you're not reading for the challenge :)

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• I think you read at the pace for you. If you are enjoying your books at the pace you are reading, than go for it.

Like you, I've read 6 (almost 7) books so far this year and probably continue at close to this pace for the remainder of the year. I enjoy always having a book on the go, but I don't like to double up my books.

EllenZReads I don't think it's bad to read "too fast" unless you're a) not comprehending or b) not enjoying the book you are reading. Maybe you can challenge yourself to reading something different for which you have to slow down a bit? or not. :)

Diane Coto (fictionzeal) | 60 comments I really wish I could read a little faster. I've tried speed reading but can't seem to grasp it. I find it actually takes me longer to finish a book I like than one that is so-so. For the so-so reads, I scan more throughout. For the books I really like, I want to understand every detail.

Jessica (jollybookshelf) Not at all! Everyone has their own speed and comprehension level. If you feel that this isn't challenging enough, try reading TWO books per week. ^_^

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) There's nothing wrong with being ahead. Unless you were like me in school getting scolded for it, lol. I almost always finished assigned readings way ahead of my classmates and the teachers did not approve at all.

Jennifer I was I. The same boat. Except for 1st grade when I had the most amazing teacher. Most teachers would be annoyed to have one of their first graders reading on a 4th/5th grade level but my teacher encouraged it and would let me go to the older kids classrooms to find books. Some of those teachers (for the older grades) got a kick outta helping a first grader choose a book! My teacher would even allow me to sit apart from the other children so that I could read to my hearts content. :-)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I actually had a 6th grade teacher refuse to accept a book report because according to her it was above my reading level. Well my mom and the principal got involved and the teacher had no choice but to except it. Then she told me I could only get books from the school library. So that is what I did. Then she started complaining that I was handing in too many book reports, lol.

Steven Tackett | 66 comments Can't say I ever had that pleasure in elementary... I found myself in a corner more often then not... ironically, despite my reading speed, I've never really been much of a reader. Maybe I was lying to my inner and younger self ;)

Patty Rose (pattyrose31) I've already finished 10 books this year and it's only day 9. I am a pretty quick reader and I always know what's going on in the book. I just can't seem to put them down once I get started. I have to know how they end!!!

message 12: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I find I read different books at different speeds. Some books I find I have to work a little bit harder at, whereas others I get drawn into and read at a quick pace.

It depends what else I'm doing at the same time. A few years ago I was reading over 100 books a year, whereas now I'm more likely to read around 65 as I've got work, a dog, grown-up person responsibilies, hehe.

Jennifer, I had a similar problem when I was at school. They didn't think I was reading the books properly because the school books were sixteen page early reader pictures books, so I would memorise them and rattle them off. My parents had to explain that at the time I was reading The Hobbit and they weren't coaching me on the reading books, I was just bored.

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) My mother got into numerous arguments with my teachers about my reading capacity, lol. I tested at college level and higher for reading when I took the standardized testing in 5th grade, now if only the teachers that gave me a problem would have looked at those results then maybe it would not have been an issue.

Anja (thesofa) | 86 comments Reading too fast? Only if you are on vacation/in a waiting room/on the train etc. and you have finished the book earlier than you thought and didn't bring another one ;D
