Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments How could it possibly be time to vote again, lol?

Please vote for the tag you would most like to read for August at the following link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KGRCNW8

You may click on the answer choices in the survey to see a listing of books that fit each tag.

Remember, you may cast up to a total of 10 participation points for your choice. Everyone gets one vote for free so please vote even if you don't have any participation points!

You can see how many participation points you currently have in the spreadsheet below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Happy voting! Please cast your votes by 12 pm EST on 7/22.

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments Already!? How?

Welp, some will be able to guess what I am voting for >:-)

Voted! Meli I think I've voted for your choice!

EXCELLENT 🥰

I feel like I always say this when a "darker" tag shows up, but I really want this one.

message 5: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2242 comments At least I actually finished a southern book before the voting started and I started my black lives matter book. I actually like all 3 tags this month but I have a feeling the poll ballot game is going to influence the winner again.

message 6: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments Voted and excited for a couple of the choices!

I can't believe it's already the 15th. I've read my Southern book but haven't touched my BLM books.

SouthWestZippy | 1539 comments Voted!
Great choices, hard to pick but I did.

message 8: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12571 comments Strange how the monthly tags seem to align with Poll Talley every month-LoL

I thought Grad School would have some interesting choices, but everything on the list the appealed to me I already read-

Of the other two, I have tons of both-So I am voting with Meli this month

message 9: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I have a ton of Queens and Witches too... I happen to start a series that all have the Queen tag, so I may have voted for that, but I'm totally ok if Witches wins too.

message 10: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5753 comments I love academic satires but I still think grad school seems like a narrow topic. I guess anyone in law or med school would count but I think the other 2 options have more variety.

Joanne, I appreciate you 😘
You too, Charlotte!
And anyone else supporting witches :P

I just realized something... wouldn't Ninth House fit the grad school tag?
I haven't even actually looked at the book lists yet!

Robin, I thought the same as you - that the grad school tag is too narrow. However, in looking at the books tagged this way, I think a lot of them are books that were required reading in grad school. It's a rather eclectic bunch. :)

However, I'm leaning Meli's way this month.

message 13: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments FYI - The Grad School tag list has a lot of Black Lives Matter type books, plus antebellum, social justice, feminism etc. Those that aren't listed would certainly qualify.

The grad school tag is the broadest category by far. It has more English literature than anything else. It also has a surprising number of YA and children's books (from education majors I suppose). Games of Thrones, Hunger Games, American Gods were big surprises.

message 14: by Olivermagnus (new)

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4773 comments I'm all in for witches but I'm definitely okay if it's Queens. I've been reading a lot of crap for the Poll Ballot challenge so grad school will only work for me if there are some trashy romances in that category.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments For queens, I am sure I have some books, but I was also thinking outside the box and thought of books set in Queens, NY, and books about drag queens. Could be options if you are in the mood to read about royalty!

message 16: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Trixie and Katya's Guide to Modern Womanhood came out yesterday! Perfect for Queens, lol.

I'm torn, have not voted yet, maybe I'll let the fates decide.

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky My TBR piles are out of control, so I chose the tag that best fit. I didn't realize I had been MIA for over a year *gasp*, so I didn't get a second choice. I've got many southern books and reviews coming, so hopefully my name will reappear!

Becky, I've put your name back in the current spreadsheet - you have 4 participation points from before. Good to see you back!

message 19: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Anita, thanks for keeping track of me while I was on sabbatical. Ha!

I’d love witches or queens. Graduate school would be difficult but I’m sure I’d be able to come up with something.

message 22: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2721 comments Queens and Witches - I bet there's a ton of overlap in those lists too!

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12924 comments You called it right! I love both of these choices. I’m always happy with witches, although I have thought that with having it in October and having it for the tag, that’s a lot of witches. Although I think our group has tended to vote broadly and for the whole ballot challenge option. I’m going to vote for queens, because I think it’s broader than you’d think. Queens like New York as Nicole said, but there’s a ton of queens in fantasy, drag queens, Lager Queen of Minnesota, a Sarah Addison Allen one. I think it’s actually quite a broad tag, and not just for historical fiction or fantasy. So while I’d be happy with witches, I think I’m going to vote Queens!

Thanks! Needed to get plugged back into a community. I'm an introvert, so this quarantine isolation stuff didn't bug me at first, but I'm starting to go a bit senile. This group was the first place I thought of. =)

LOL So you started to feel like you're going senile and you thought of us? 😁😂🤣

Yeah, that sounds about right. Speaking only for myself, this IS a great place to help postpone the slide into senility.

Welcome back. Thanks for the laugh.

I know I am in the minority on this, but if anyone is voting for a good tag for The Poll Tag challenge, the Grad School tag offers more variety and potential for the high ticket poll tags.

Ack! That's not what I meant! lol I hope no one thought that's what I meant... (doh!)

Glad I could make someone laugh. ;)

message 41: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2596 comments These tags surprised me. At least the Grad School one in particular, but the Queen tag too. Just surprised that they'd be in the top 200. Grad School looks like a lot of classics and I've read the ones I want to read. That would be a narrow tag for me. I went with the witches and queens also.

message 42: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments Grad school might also be a good tag for non-fiction fans. It could conceivable cover just about any field of study. Most of the books on the list from my field are practical and easy for anyone, but some were more theoretical, advanced or specialized.

message 43: by Karin (last edited Jul 17, 2020 07:07PM) (new)

Karin | 9225 comments Don't forget that one of the three tags was suggested by a member of PBT so isn't necessarily in the top 200. Southern was suggested by a PBT member with the Poll Book Tally game in mind, but the other two were randomly generated. I think it's by a randomizer like the gift certificate winner is.

message 44: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments We actually select two tags at random from the top THREE hundred.

Ohhhh, I thought it was the top 200. That's fine! And I had forgotten about the member tag. :-)

message 46: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12924 comments I keep forgetting about that too. That the member tag nomination was a thing.

message 47: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9225 comments Anita wrote: "We actually select two tags at random from the top THREE hundred."

Right, I'd forgotten about that change (wasn't it the top 200 on Shelfari?)

Rachel N. | 2242 comments Anita wrote: "We actually select two tags at random from the top THREE hundred."
Didn't we also add member suggestions to the list of 300 this year? I remember each member being able to nominate 5 tags to put on the list.

message 49: by Hebah (new)

Hebah (quietdissident) | 675 comments *refreshes PBT to see if results are up yet*

message 50: by NancyJ (last edited Jul 22, 2020 12:09PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments ditto

I wouldn't mind keeping the southern and BLM tags a while longer. Every time I look at the reviews I add something new to my tbr.
