Netflix
A series you want to start
The Grishaverse books, for sure. I finally bought Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, so if I ever get through my arcs and readathon tbrs, I'll actually get around to those!
Deep Clean
One that's been on your TBR for ages
The Original of Laura by Vladimir Nabokov. I bought this when it was published, at Borders as it happens (which instantly dates its purchase, lol), but I decided I wanted to wait to read it until I've finished reading everything else by Nabokov. Which I still have nooot quiiiiite done. Yet!
Animal Crossing
A book you bought because of the hype
I don't buy new books very often, and I couldn't come up with any purchase that's been hype-based, but I did put The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires on hold at the library and grab it as soon as I possibly could because of the hype...and then was about a third into it before I remembered, oh right, I don't actually like horror?? and returned it so it could be read by those who do.
Slump-Inducing
A book that put you in a reading slump
ngl, I don't really get what this one means. If I'm finding a book uninteresting, I either DNF it or - if it's really just me and the moment - I read something else? So I don't know, I don't...slump? I guess?
Memories
Your top 3 favorite books
ugghhhhh how dare you make me choose, okay FINE let's see-
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Persuasion
Lolita
Oops
A book that is popular that you haven’t read yet
Anything by Sarah J Maas! They're alllll over my bookstagram and blog, vlog, whatever, feeds, but they don't sound like they'd be my cup of tea, so I just move along.
Main Character
A character that you love to see in another book
I'm a sucker for riffs on Pride and Prejudice (or other Jane Austen, but P&P is popular for this), so I loved one of Naomi Novik's short stories in Golden Age and Other Stories where she basically did "Pride and Prejudice but in the world of Temeraire" - Elizabeth is a dragon-riding captain, and it's absolutely delightful.
Plot twist
A book with a great twist
All the books I keep thinking of, it would be a spoiler to say they have a great twist! But uhh I'll just say any of the greats by Agatha Christie. At her worst, she sucks, but at her best, oh man.
The Stone Age
One of the first books you remember reading
The Marvelous Mud Washing Machine
Everyone Should Read
A book that you are currently recommending
I've found myself recommending Boyfriend Material a lot lately, it's a genuinely hilarious, touching read!

Netflix
A series you want to start
I have so many. I've been feeling lately like I used to read a lot of series, especially fantasy series, when I was a kid/teenager, and as an adult I've somehow switched to reading almost entirely standalone novels. But I miss getting sucked into a series and spending a lot of time with a group of characters! I'd like to start series by Robin Hobb and Brandon Sanderson in the near future - maybe Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice?
Deep Clean
One that's been on your TBR for ages
This one is easy for me: Sense and Sensibility. It's the oldest book on my TBR, I love Austen and have read everything else by her, I've fully intended to get to it for years and by all accounts should enjoy it, so I have no idea why I haven't read it yet!
Animal Crossing
A book you bought because of the hype
I don't buy books I haven't read, but I guess the best answer for this one is An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, which I told my boyfriend-at-the-time to buy for me for my birthday. I love Hank Green from his Youtube work and I was excited to see what his debut would be like - turns out it was well worth the hype.
Slump-Inducing
A book that put you in a reading slump
Hmmm. My last reading slump was pretty obviously quarantine related, not book related. In 2019 though it took me a very long time to get through the quite short Tender is the Night by Fitzgerald - I didn't end up hating it, but it was very slow.
Memories
Your top 3 favorite books
Oh, how hard! I'll go with Anna Karenina by Tolstoy, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin, and Wise Child by Monica Furlong.
Oops
A book that is popular that you haven’t read yet
I try to keep a running list of these, because I like to stay somewhat up to date on the books everyone is talking about - I just like to know what's going on! There are many, but I'll say The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which I have on hold but is going to take months to get to me.
Main Character
A character that you love to see in another book
I'm not quite sure what this one means...I'll go with Eleanor Oliphant, whom I found delightful and would happily follow on many deadpan adventures.
Plot twist
A book with a great twist
Thinking about this one is making me realize that I might not really like books with plot twists very much? Everything that I've read lately with a big twist I haven't ended up liking all that much. I had a pretty decent time reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane last year and that had a pretty dramatic twist.
The Stone Age
One of the first books you remember reading
My parents read to me as a child all the time and one of their classic "You were always such a bookworm" stories about me is that they read Where the Wild Things Are to me so many times that as a toddler I would flip through the pages, "reading" it out loud - but I actually couldn't read, I just had the book memorized and was pretending to read it out loud just like my parents did. I think that was one of the first books I actually learned to read, though!
Everyone Should Read
A book that you are currently recommending
A somewhat lesser known one that I always recommend is The Rook by Daniel O'Malley. I adore this book - it's really unique urban fantasy, it has a really well done, un-cliched amnesia element, it features some really wonderful, supportive female friendships, and it's the debut novel of a guy who works in the Australian transportation department - who clearly used his life experience to fashion a hilarious story of a woman with incredible supernatural powers whose real superpower is being an extremely effective bureaucrat.
Netflix A series you want to start
The Magicians by Lev Grossman - I read a YA series every summer (not on purpose, it just happens that way), and this year, with the pushing of my friends and husband, I'm picking this one up today.
Deep Clean One that's been on your TBR for ages
East of Eden by John Steinbeck - Added this one to my TBR on January 20, 2014. It's on my 40 Before 40 list, so I will definitely read it... eventually.
Animal Crossing A book you bought because of the hype
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett - I picked this book from Book of the Month before the hype really started, but I read it (instead of it languishing in my TBR for months) because of the hype. It was great, but I don't know if it lived up to the hype.
Slump-Inducing A book that put you in a reading slump
The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd - This was the last 5 star book I read, and it's been hard to find anything that compares.
Memories Your top 3 favorite books
YIKES How do I pick? Let's do my top 3 from this year.
YA - With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
Adult Fiction - The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
Nonfiction - Know My Name: A Memoir by Chanel Miller
Oops A book that is popular that you haven’t read yet
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - I just am not sure if I want to read this. I have a real aversion to southern lit, and there's so much sketchiness with this author, but everyone loves it so much.
Main Character A character that you would love to see in another book
Adunni from The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré - We saw her struggles, and now I want to see what happens after the book ends! She's so courageous and determined and I'd love to see her in school.
Plot twist A book with a great twist
The Golden Hour by Beatriz Williams - I just finished this book yesterday, but I thought the twist was beautiful and it made me so happy and love the book even more.
The Stone Age One of the first books you remember reading
The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene - I was a member of a Nancy Drew book club when I was growing up, so this is one of the first not-kids books that I remember reading.
Everyone Should Read A book that you are currently recommending
Homegoing by Yaa Gaysi - I reread this book in February for book club, and it's timely and important and just a really good narrative.
The Magicians by Lev Grossman - I read a YA series every summer (not on purpose, it just happens that way), and this year, with the pushing of my friends and husband, I'm picking this one up today.

Homegoing by Yaa Gaysi - I reread this book in February for book club, and it's timely and important and just a really good narrative.

A series you want to start
Generally I avoid series. Several times recently, I have read a book only to discover it is part of a series. I have no series I want to start (at the moment).
Deep Clean
One that's been on your TBR for ages

Animal Crossing
A book you bought because of the hype
I rarely buy books.. except for those that are book club reads.

Slump-Inducing
A book that put you in a reading slump
Juggling 4 challenges, I don't have time for reading slumps. That said, I was unimpressed with Pnin. Can't say it made me want to read Lolita
Memories
Your top 3 favorite books. There are so many awesome books out there that this isn't a doable request. Some recent 5 star reads: Where the Crawdads Sing, Beartown and Seven Sisters and a Brother
Oops

Main Character
A character that you would love to see in another book
I would love to see a crossover of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache Still Life and Dr. Kay Scarpetta Postmortem. His easy going style with her almost frantic one would be interesting. They would seriously irritate each other up until the very end but it would be fun to read.
Plot twist
A book with a great twist
Girl On A Train I had read two thirds of the book and was ready to be done so I went to Wiki to find out the end. Turned out the "who done it" was not even on my radar so had to finish the book. The ending actually pulled the book from a 1 star (dnf) to a solid 3 stars. Nice ending.
The Stone Age
One of the first books you remember reading
The Outsiders It was the book that a teacher challenged me to read in 6th grade. Before this book, I hated reading...after this book, I had to keep searching for books that were as good as it. Thanks Ms. Underwood!

The Stone Age
One of the first books you remember reading
Speak Up, Christopher: Christopher Learns the Difference Between Right and Wrong - This was the first book I managed to read on my own. It was sooo important to me to be able to read on my own that the memory of it became seared in my mind. Homes: A Refugee Story is about a boy and his family who are worried that it is getting too dangerous to live in Iraq so they move to Syria (spoiler this doesn't end well). It is from the POV of a child so it is easy to read but you still learn a lot about it was like in Iraq and Syria in the early 2010s. If anyone is doing Read Harder it fits the prompt read a book by a refugee.
