So what do you guys think about starting read-a-thons in this group?

You can add all the books you've read in this topic in the time allotted. We can make it a 'one week a month' or 1 full day or something.

Let me know your thoughts.

Awesome! What do you guys think? A week long? A full 24 hours?

Also, what do you think about a monthly 'theme' in the readathon?

Next month is February. So we do a weeks worth of reading but the theme will be 'Love' so you must read 1 romantic book.

What week next month is good for all of you?

Do you guys have any suggestions for a romantic one? I don't typically read that genre so I don't have too many in mind..

message 12: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments Sophia Kinsella is funny romantic. White Hot Kiss is an urban romance/ya. Janet Evanovich has a bunch of stand alone short novels that are considered romance (not as good as Stephanie Plum but still ok) Burned is a bit of a naughty romance same with Seduction and Snacks. Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance was great.

Happy Sunday everyone :) Our first read-a-thon is now officially over.

Do we still want to continue this for next month? Thoughts?

message 15: by Nicola (new)

Nicola I wouldn't mind doing another one next month, I enjoyed this one! :)

Okay cool :)

Here are our choices:
Week 1: March 1-7
Week 2: March 8-14
Week 3: March 15-21 (St. Paddy's day week)
Week 4: March 22-28

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) What about doing it March 15-21 & having a theme of 'non-American' so you have to read at least one book with a non-American author? Just a thought.

message 18: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
Sounds like a good idea to me :)

What non-American author were you thinking?

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) I'm just thinking that the people on this thread are from all over so why not celebrate diversity of authors?

Some examples might be: J.R.R.Tolkien, C.S.Lewis, Douglas Adams, Yann Martel, L.M.Montgomery, Victor Hugo, Kerstin Gier, Anne Frank, Brothers Grimm, Cornelia Funke, Markus Zusak (these are just some I came up with off the top of my head as being non-American...where a lot of authors tend to be from).

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
Absolutely, I love the idea!

We need a theme for May!

message 22: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
That could be fun!

message 23: by Brie (new)

Brie | 569 comments I agree, I haven't read much of that genre at all but have always wanted to!

message 24: by Nicola (new)

Nicola That sounds like a good theme to me! I've always wanted to have a good look around in that genre too :)

I think July's theme should have something to do with independence day.. what do you think?

message 26: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (last edited Jul 30, 2015 09:18AM) (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
What do you guys think August theme should be?

message 27: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
I like both of those options!

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
Any thoughts on the theme for September?

message 29: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments Sept. is famous for back to school.

message 30: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
Oh yeah! That's a good idea... a school theme

message 31: by Trina (new)

Trina (duskvamp) Yeah

message 32: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristina_rr) Maybe something like 'books you've read in school'?

message 33: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 2535 comments Book you should have read in school but didn't? That would also qualify for the the 26 book challenge. Or books that take place in school. BOTM Luckiest Girl Alive would qualify. Sorry I am all about multitasking.

No, no that's perfect! I was wondering what book I was going to use for that one!

You guys think we should quit the RATs for a little while? They don't seem to be pulling in any many people as they used to.

message 36: by Trina (new)

Trina (duskvamp) Sara wrote: "You guys think we should quit the RATs for a little while? They don't seem to be pulling in any many people as they used to."

I noticed that I love them but I think its the challenge of finding a book to fit a theme and setting a goal of how many books I want to read lol

message 37: by Sara, The Meme Mod! (new)

Sara | 3903 comments Mod
Well we can definitely quit the "theme" for awhile if that makes it easier on everyone. Or we can just take a pause on them in general and come back to them later. Let me know your thoughts!

message 38: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristina_rr) I'm a big fan of the theme read-a-thon...
Maybe we can do something like the booktube-a-thon?
There are challenges you need to accomplish during the read-a-thon, for example something like 'read 300 pages a day' or 'read a whole series'.
It's easier than a theme and a lot of fun!
