August 2020. Right now, I am over this Corona thing and 2020 in general. But this, right here, this is my happy place and books always make me happy. Robin has chosen a super interesting trope for this month. It's time to celebrate birthdays (like MINE!) and this challenge which is more importantly- new books!

Robin's choice ~ Birthstone cover! Choose a book with its cover the color of your birthstone.

This will be the discussion thread for all our August Challenge books we read this month. You can read as many as you'd like, but please let me know which one you're picking!

What we do need is for you to sign up, and let us know you intend to participate before the 5th of August and then, (this is the important part), come back and let us how you rated it or what you thought of it before 1159 p.m. of the last day of the month. That's it. Pretty simple, really.

(The last time we did this, we all used our massive TBR piles and made it a rule that this was a TBR challenge...I'm forgoing that rule this time, because-fun! I want this to be fun and not a slog to get through, you know? However, you certainly can stick to that rule, if you want to.)

Each month that you participate and finish on/before the last day of the month, you will get your name added to a list that will be eligible to be randomly selected from at the beginning of 2021 for a $10 Amazon gift card.

*Pay no attention to this spoiler right now, this is just my list of who participated last month in alphabetical order...because my OCD compels me and this makes it slightly easier in the grand scheme of things, LOL!

Cátia ~ The Mistake (Off-Campus, #2) by Elle Kennedy 2 stars-Aug;
Denise ~ Exodus (The Ravenhood Duet, #2) by Kate Stewart Did not report-Aug;
Jean ~ A Lie for a Lie (All In, #1) by Helena Hunting 4 stars-Aug;
Jen ~ Flock (The Ravenhood Duet, #1) by Kate Stewart 5 stars-Aug;
Judy ~ Treachery (Antihero Inferno, #1) by Lily White Did Not Report-Aug;
Leslie ~ The Play by Karina Halle DNF-Aug;
Lisa A ~ The Empty Jar by Michelle Leighton 4.5 stars-Aug;
Marta ~ The Hooker and the Hermit (Rugby, #1) by L.H. Cosway did not report-Aug;
Melinda ~ Exodus (The Ravenhood Duet, #2) by Kate Stewart 5 stars-Aug;
Michele ~ Exodus (The Ravenhood Duet, #2) by Kate Stewart 5 stars-Aug;
Nay ~ The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald 4.5 stars-Aug;

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I'm in - color of my birthstone, huh? That's soooo not fair. My birthstone is opal. Who has an opal cover? The Interwebs also says the October birthsone can be pink tourmaline, and everyone knows everything on the Interwebs is true. So I'm gonna go with something pink. I didn't know how hard it was going to be to find a book with a pink cover...but humor me and let's just pretend this is totally and completely pink

The Empty Jar by Michelle Leighton

T. Rosado (trosado) | 338 comments I'm in and I've been thinking about this since Robin picked it. I figured that I'd have to choose a cover with a diamond ring on it, BUT then I realized that there are many colored diamonds. Hee hee! I have a number of colors to choose from: pink, yellow, grey, black, etc. I'll be back with my choice.

Read the Rivals and let us know what you think.

I read God-Shaped Hole and really enjoyed it. It is really quirky and intense. It is not really an HEA. I had to read it in chunks and take breaks, but it has everything from laughter to tears.

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Thankyou Nay

message 37: by Jean (new)

message 41: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Robin, Robin, Robin - I blame you. I had to pick a pink cover. I searched and searched, and finally decided this one was pink enough - The Empty Jar by Michelle Leighton

It was a 4.5 star read for me, but it's highly emotional. Through 80% of it, I read with a giant lump in my throat.

Best line ever....You make death beautiful!! Gaaaaaah!!!

message 43: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) My white cover book for April (diamond) was The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald.

It's pulled me out of a serious book funk, and I give it 4-1/2 stars, and if not for some editing issues, it would definitely been 5 for me.

message 44: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments Hey, I finally finished a book! My Sapphire book for September was A Lie for a Lie (All In, #1) by Helena Hunting

4 Stars! It was light and refreshing with really no angst and I didn't even realize the H was a professional hockey player before I started it, which I loved!
