Our beloved co-moderator, Jon Recluse, has passed away. It’s a shock to our HA team, and a few of us mods are taking it really hard.

Speaking solely for myself, I have been friends with Jon online for over a decade now. He absence is going to leave a large hole in my life.

Since Jon loved this group, horror books and horror authors so much, we have decided to do a group read in his honor. We are still putting together the details and will notify everyone when we have it all ironed out.

In the meantime, please feel free to post your memories of Jon, your condolences or anything else you want to share. We are all going to miss him.

I heard about his passing from a horror author friend on Facebook. So very sad. I didn't know him, but it sounds like he was a friend to many. My condolences to all who loved him. May he rest in peace.

I’ll miss him a lot. He was one of my first friends here on HA and GR. He was always so nice to me. It’s been almost ten years now for our friendship. He is a great loss to this community. It’s a very sad day for me.

This is incredibly sad. He was always supportive and kind to anyone in the community. He will be missed.

I was so sad to hear of his passing. He was such a sweet man. I met him here and we were friends on Facebook for several years. He will be missed.

I met Jon here at HA. He was always nice to me and fun to chat with. I was very shocked and saddened to hear this. RIP Jon.

This is a huge shock to me. John was a great person, and he will be missed. I think that a group read would be a wonderful tribute.

I'm heartbroken. Is there going to be a funeral or something? This is terrible. How did it happen?

I didn't know! I'm distraught, more especially for his family as well as his GR friends!
Please do institute a group read, and keep us apprised if we can do anything.

Devastating blow. He was such a kind, welcoming guy. He will be sorely missed by many.

I'm reading the comments and writing this in tears, Jon was definitely one of the reasons I was drawn to this site and this community and all the magic it offers since 2010...I'm sitting here looking at his read shelf and I feel as if something is choking me from the inside, still in shock over this news.

He left such a legacy with his reading challenges, hope they stay here forever for all to see.

God he was reading and rating to the end. What a good man!

He was very well-read and was a super nice and funny guy. He will be greatly missed. Rest easy, Jon.

2020 has been filled with bad news.
This is just one more sad story to add to it.

This year just gets worse. Such sad news. In the several years I've known Jon as an online friend he has always been kind and thoughtful, and an absolute mine of information when discussing the horror genre.

Jon was one of the first people I "met" here, and he introduced me to countless amazing authors and books. He was funny, kind, and always willing to listen. This is absolutely heartbreaking to so many.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear this. Jon was a special person and I enjoyed seeing him around on the group and Goodreads. I am sorry for those who knew him personally offline. Such a tragic loss.
