My second 800+ pages fiction of the year!

This is a saga of three Finish siblings who moved to the US and settled along the Columbia River in early 1900s. The book is about the lives of the immigrants especially those from Scandinavia, the industries they are involved in and also a bit of the political environment of that era.

This is an enjoyable read although a lot of the incidents in the book feel a bit repetitive. The lives of the Scandinavian community and the logging industry at the beginning of the 20th century is very interesting.

The author Karl Marlantes is famous for his other novel Matterhorn, which is an excellent book on the Vietnam war. Both these books are personal as he served in Vietnam and his families are immigrants from Finland.
