Quite a good review, it gives a firm idea of if this plan would be helpful to someone or not.
This book is very interesting in its premise, but one of the things I judge a good diet on is could I do it at holidays; could I do it out with friends; and could I sustain it for a long time.
The diet is based on the premise that you eat clean for three days, then have normal (cheat) foods for one, then clean for two, and cheat for one. Some folks have taken this to mean cheating with cookies and fries, but the diet itself is more of regular diet on the cheat days, and more strict on the days you do the eat clean.
He is specific in the outline of how to do it, and gives charts, samples, and means to keep track of your own meal plan...but, it is a hard one for me to sustain.
First, it basis it a lot on eggs, and fish. He even says it is a very heavy fish diet plan. I do not like fish or eggs. Though I could substitute, it makes it hard.
He also wants you to go gluten-free on clean days. Not bad, but I am not sure I could sustain that for a long period of time.
He also has a LOT of rules for timing of foods, and types of foods that would make it difficult for me to do it with friends, and on holidays.
In addition, I am a diabetic, and his plan does not take into account diabetes, or other health issues that might need to be adapted.
He DOES, however, talk extensively about dieting on a budget, and has hints and tricks in that regard. Something I think all diet books should include. I give kudos for this.
The book itself is well written, and I was fascinated with his autobiography in the beginning, but I would not recommend this book for the average masses to use as a diet book. But, if you have no health issues, like fish, and would like to give it a try. I say check it out of your library first, and see if you like it before you invest money. There are better diet plans out there for the cost of the book.
