Hi!
So, guessing characters. What are the rules?

Obviously, the prompts were designed in a way where specific book characters' traits were distilled into some guessable leads. But, obviously as well, not all of the resulting prompts are unique and could apply to a bunch of characters in a bunch of books.

For example:
Mystery Person #8:
*MC has curly hair
*Features an abusive character
*’Manipulative’ in text (pg/% & quote)
*Mask on cover
I'm pretty sure that many 'psycholofical thrillers' will involve characters who have these traits since most of those contain both abusive characters and the word 'manipulative' and definitely more than one of those would feature masks on cover and curly-haired MCs.

So, Q #1: Would any of these count if the descriptions fit or would we have to guess the specific one the developer of the prompts had in mind initially?

Q #2: Can we know which mods partcipated in the dvelopment of the prompts? :)

Wow great questions! First off, we tend to be a bit evil when it comes to creating challenges. Okay, I lied.. it's mostly me being evil when I create the monthly challenges.

Q1: So throughout the 30 mysterious people, 5 people will be MOD. If you look at our 'Group Home Page' you will see 6 MODs but just know that Elizabeth hasn't been active in this group so she is not one of the mystery people.

That being said, I would suggest looking at the other 5 MODs GoodReads profiles. Some tasks might show you who is who.. others will definitely make you think. If you look closely, you might be able to figure out who is a MOD.

As for the 25 other mysterious people, they could range from a main to a side character in any book that we have done a buddy read for. Which means you should look closely at what books have buddy read threads in this group.

I could go even further and state that the remaining mystery people will be in a standalone or the first book of any series, duology, and trilogy. You could even google a character from a book in question... and you might be able to catch on to our guessing game.

That being said, you can only guess for a mystery person after the team as completed the four tasks for them. Once that is done, I will let you know if you have guessed correctly or not. If it's a no, then you will all have to reread the tasks again before making a guess.

I hope I explained that all well but if not, let me know and I will chug some more coffee down and help again.

Andy and Aly helped with their prompts and for some characters that I was just stuck on. SO, if you get confused or need help/hints in ANY way - I'm your go to girl.

Are there any restrictions on which team members read for a mystery person? What I mean is if I have books that work for all four of the clues for a mystery person, is that ok? Or, do we have to have four different team members read for that mystery person?
I hope that made sense.

The only restriction we have is one book per task. So if one person reads 4 books that work for the 4 tasks for one mystery person - by all means. Read away, review, and the post for them. Then you can guess on who that mystery person is either via PM to me or if you guys have a secret group - then on that.

One more question. I apologize if this was covered somewhere that I missed. The characters we are looking for are mainly from the buddy read list. How far back? This group does a lot of buddy reads it seems, so is there a past BR date that it is silly to look for a character?

Ooo that's a good question.. I didn't even think about that. Let me do some research on my evilness and I will give you an answer.

OKAY, I now have an answer. With my expert researching skills, I can confirm that BR threads will start from 2018 Don't forget.. BOTM can be considered BR threads...

You said the mystery persons came from the first books or standalones so I'm confused about Mystery #10

*Tree(s) on cover
*Author is a POC
*#7 in a book series

What I've said is all true. This can be a character from a first book of any series or a standalone. Don't focus on one specific task for each mystery person. Remember, they range from easy to hard tasks. The hard ones are going to mess you up and make you go down a certain path. A path that is way different than the others.

Try looking at the other tasks and see if you can come up with someone. The one that is tripping you up, which I'm assuming is
the '#7 in a book series', might be a clue that could help solve it.

Can I use for Features a fugitive? The characters are on the run but I'm not sure if it's the same as fugitives?

The BOTM books count as BR on the SS? If so, I missed points

with words in text prompts, does it need to be exact. ex. "independence" instead of "independent" for #5?

for #19 animal on cover, does it have to be an actual animal, or would an animal object work? such as a teddy bear, etc?

It can be either or. A stuffed animal on the cover would work.. because it is an animal (in a way).

In Spinning Silver, the Jewish people are separated from the rest of the city in a walled section/ghetto. Does that count for 'features segregation'?

Ok, so not a question for this specific challenge but about brs, I know we can read them 15 days after the last post/ or date but what if we want to start before the starting date, is that allowed?

In Once Upon a Real Good Time, Campbell Mason Evans used to go by his middle name when he was a twentysomething pop star. He prefers to go by his first name in the present, but people still call him Mason. Can that count for "MC goes by their middle name?"
