Sean catches Mercy roaming about during the night and later tells her he thought Chad was trying too hard to be accepted. Did you worry on his behalf at that moment?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments This was one part of the book that I didn't get a handle on. I honestly was only worried about Mercy; Chad didn't fill out his
role enough for me to be concerned about him, until he drove that truck late in the story.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I didn't know how to take Sean in the first half of the book. He caught Mercy roaming around but didn't turn her in. Sure, he made it sound like she could do him a "favor" at some point, but it made me think he wasn't a rabid follower of Pete. I started wondering if he was another undercover operative who had been in the compound for a long time...maybe from another government agency. I took what he said about Chad trying too hard to be accepted as a warning. Boy was I wrong.

~Teresa I got the impression that he wasn’t as dedicated to Pete as some of the others. This was more like a game to him.

Also, it was mentioned that he had either been in the military or had worked in law enforcement . Maybe I missed it, but that was never fleshed out or addressed.

I felt similarly to Robin and Teresa. Sean was an enigma, someone I felt had his own agenda and it was tough to figure out exactly what that was. When he didn’t turn Mercy in, I was even more sure of it. But his statement about Chad was ominous. Once he was suddenly chosen as the driver, I knew he was in trouble.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with everyone. I had a hard time figuring out what Sean's agenda was. I hoped that he was an ally, but that changed when Pete called Mercy to him about Noah.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Chad wasn't written for readers to instantly be on board with him - that tongue kiss when he first met Mercy as an example, so that augered not well for him to survive the book. Sean was harder to work out, I though he would be a challenge for Pete moving forward which sort of happened by the end.
