Thoughts on the book so far

Nico (nicoreads) | 43 comments Enjoyed the continued presence of Rachel, I think she's a great side character with lots of personality, but not so overwhelming as to take away from out the main character (Sophie).

I'm satisfied with Kyle's explanation for why he said what he did to the police as being logical given the bad reputation the area the girls went to that night. It was horrible, of course, and just shows that one of the biggest struggles with sexuality can be the fall-out when finally confessing to friends and family.

Still wish there was some more movement on the mystery plot of Mina's death. Hoping that picks up since I'm closing in on halfway through the book now.

I'm with you 100% - I really like Rachel, and I have an inkling that maybe she will become a romantic interest for Sophie, but it's just conjecture at this point.
And again agree with what you said about Kyle - I don't think he should have lied to the police, but I was happy he and Sophie talked and that maybe they can be friends in the future. It's sad that people take other people’s sexuality/identity as a personal attack when it's just who they are, and actually shows Mina really trusted him to tell hime that.
I am so with you on how slow the ACTUAL plot of the book is going.. ugh, I don't have the slightest idea of what could be the reason for the murder. I understand that this whole back story was important for the overall plot and to explain why Sophie has to do stuff herself, but it is too slow at this point.

Up until about half of this section of the book I thought Mina was super cute and supportive of Sophie, especially because of the way she decorated Sophie's walking stick for prom, that's 100% what people should do for their disabled friends - make them feel good about their bodies!
However, towards chapters 29 + 30, I feel really strongly that they had an unhealthy relationship. The way Mina went and had sex with someone and manipulated the situation of how Sophie would find out for maximum impact is really bad. I hated that. Why couldn’t they just talk about it?!!?!?!?
Another point I feel is very obvious is how much self-hatred Sophie feels. She seems to hate everything about herself and talk about herself with a negative light constantly shining.
I find that kind of frustrating.

Anyway, now I have to find the strength to go keep reading. I think it's taking me more effort because I am annotating the book, but jeez, I want to know who killed Mina. Murder mysteries are not supposed to be quite this slow.
