This thread is to discuss the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris. Discussions should begin in October. These are the books in the series:

Sookie is by far my fave of Charlaine Harris' writings! She is sassy, funny, strong, and has great male suitors to boot! Just love these books!

Harris' best series!! And put me down for Team Eric!! Love him in the books, love him MORE on True Blood!!

You guys should consider having a separate folder "Featured Series" or something along those lines. It's funny, but also a little confusing seeing headings like "Author of the Month -> Sookie Stackhouse", "Author of the Month -> Harper Connelly" pop up on your feed.

(Just a humble suggestion, something to think about.)

Back to the main topic:
This is one of my favorite series ever (along with Harry Potter and Anne of Green Gables)

I love the series! So far, my fave has been Dead to the World. Mostly because I'm on Team Eric. Bill just totally disgusted me in Club Dead. The honeymoon with him was totally over after the trunk scene.

Oh, yes! DEAD TO THE WORLD is by far the best in the series. I can pick it up and open it to random pages and find things to read & love for a few minutes!

I finished DEAD UNTIL DARK last week and watched True Blood season 1 with my hubby yesterday. I imagine I might have spoiled some of the plot from the future books by watching it first -- for example, the character of TARA.

I guess I'll just have to keep reading the series to find out :)

Definitely keep reading FlibbityFloob as the books and the series are defintely not one for one!!! I have to think of them as two seperate series for the most part, otherwise it can get a bit frustrating when the show strays from the book, but both are awesome and among my favorite books/shows.

Suz, I think of them as alternate universes. I do that with any series or movie based on a book or book series. It allows me to enjoy both the book(s) and the movie/series.

The Sookie situation is especially difficult because it is 1st person in the books and you can't do that, you can't live in a single person's head, in a TV series. For example, the only way to really explain how evil the "church" was was to have some character spend some time INSIDE it. Because on the outside it looks like a real church. It is only once you are inside that you realize that it is a group of people doing evil things. In the books no one spends time inside until late in the series, and we see how that person changes, but not what made them change. You can't do that with a series/movie and have it work.

I am a big fan of Eric but and I love who is playing him on True Blood. But as far as the series goes, at least from what i will watch of it...I like the books way better than the show. They have really gotten of off the story line and I am just wondering how they are going to play Sookie and Eric out since Sookie now has a engagement ring from Bill

I love these books sooo much am about to reread them! I was about to read dead and gone - but i need a recap first! Go team Eric!!!!

I seldom re-read books, but have reread the first 2 already and will get to CLUB DEAD soon. Want to have some kind of idea of how it plays into season 3 of True Blood. Plan to reread DEAD TO THE WORLD this winter, just for general purposes!

Are the books better than the series. Well generally books are better than movies because there is time for more detail and more plot in a book. But a series comes with additional time.

I like both the books and the series personally. They aren't the same, but I'm aware they can't be the same. The books are first person and it is almost impossible to do media that way. In a book you can tell that a group is evil (take that church for example) because the main character sees it that way. In a TV series you have to make the point that evil is being done there and that it is being done in a way where some of the people in the church are being taken in. So you put a character into the environment and let things happen to that character.

I just received A Touch of Dead and just by looking at the book I'm disappointed. It's hardback, 1/2 inch thick, large font (would be great for people that need large print books), has illustrations that take up to 1 to 2 pages with blank pages interspersed throughout. I think she's kicking the books out too quickly if she can't come up with enough to fill a normal sized book. The next one's coming in March - so every 6 months. I don't want to wait years but I would like more to read. It's probably only going to take me a couple of hours to finish the whole book. Rant finished. :)

This isn't a regular Sookie book. It's just a collection of all the short stories, in one place, that have been in various anthologies over the past few years. BAMM clearly advertised it as a short story collection. Who did you buy it from? Maybe they misrepresented it?

the only thing i did watch was the series "true bloods" i saw the books at walmart && now i totaly wanna read it. i love sookie. shes tottaly awsome

I just finished Dead & Gone. I love the series. CaN'T wait for the next book to come out. :)

Also, I look forward to watching True Blood season 2 when it comes to DVD. I don't have HBO.

Season 2 is definitely good!! Way better than the first one, which I thought was great. LOTS more Eric in season 2 which is ALWAYS a positive thing in my book!
