Title: Peeps
Author: Scott Westefeld
Paragraph: The elevator slid open on the seventh floor. The doors sitrred the air, and I caught something under the cigarettes and alcohol on their breath, an animal smell that cut through even the jasmine. For a moment, I smelled fear.
Morgan's name had scared them.

Author: Clive Cussler
Paragraph: As the range closed they distinguished a figure waving his arms like a crazy man and stumbling directly toward them. Then he staggered to a stop, swayed like a small whirlwind, and slowly crumpled into the sand face first. The shocked driver of the Renault truck nearly braked too late and was forced to swerve around the fallen man, halting in a flurry of dust.
Hehehehe!

Paragraph: 'It's an interesting end as well,' Hairstreak went on thoughtfully. 'Agonising, but interesting. First, paralysis. Then the skin turns blue. Then the pain starts. You scream yourself to death within four minutes. I tried it on one of the servants. Astonishing to watch - his face peeled off.' The pensive look left his eyes. 'You bring the blowpipe into the Cathedral quite openly as a bubble wand. You bring the darts in as part of the ornamentation of your hat. Now this is the clever part. When you want to kill the Emperor Elect, you simply take a dart from your hat - you'll be surrounded by my men, so no one will notice what you're doing - you take a dart from your hat, slip it into the pipe, then blow down on it sharply.'

Author: J.R.R. Tolkein

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Title: The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey
Author: Trenton Lee Stewart
Paragraph: Rhonda made sure Ms. Argent was out of earshot, then stepped to a side table, opened a drawer, and took out a sealed envelope. She looked solemnly at the children. "I was to give you this," she said. "It contains Mr. Benedict's intructions for beginning your adventure. I haven't seen what's inside it yet - I didn't want Ms. Argent's crew to know about it, and there hasn't been the least opportunity to read in private - and now that you're all here it seems proper that the four of you should see it first. Mr. Benedict wanted you to, after all. I'd better go see if I can deduce what these people are planning, but we'll discuss this as soon as I return."

Author: Jane Austen
Paragraph: Elizabeth took up some needlework, and was sufficiently amused to what was passed between Darcy and his companion. The perpetual commendations of the lady, either on his handwriting, or on the evenness of his lines, or on the length of his letter, with perfect unconcern with which her praises were recieved, formed a curious dialogue, and was exactly in unison with her opinion of each.
"How delighted Miss Darcy will be to recieve such a letter!"
He made no answer.
"You write uncommonly fast."
"You are mistaken, I write rather slow."
(and the dialogue carries on in the same amusing fashion, but that is on page 56 :D)

Title: Curse of the Spider King
Author Wayne Tomas Batson & Christopher Hopper
Paragraph: Autumn laughed in spite of herself. "Anomaly that caused the Rocky Mountains to form?"

Author: Mary Higgins Clark
paragraph: Sloane leaned across the desk, his manner more aggressive, even accusatory. "Ms. Farrell, I don't know what you're game is, or what you're not telling us, but clearly this was no ordinary murder. The man who called himself Curtis Caldwell didn't rob that apartment or kill Isabelle Waring at random. The whole crime was carefully planned and executed. Your appearance on the scene was the only that probably did not go according to plan." He paused, then continued, his voice filled with irritation. "You told us he was carrying Mrs. Waring's leather binder. Describe it to me again."

Author: Tamora Pierce

Title: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Passage: And then, out of nowhere, out of nothing, they were surrounded. At least thirty hooded figures, suspended in midair, formed a vast circle in the midst of which the Order members had risen, oblivious-

Even before they were acquainted, he had admired Osborne in secret. Now he was his valet, his dog, his man Friday. He believed Osborne to be the possessor of every perfection, to be the handsomest, the bravest, the most active, the cleverest, the most generous of created boys. He shared his money with him: bought him uncountable presents of knives, pencil-cases, gold seals, toffee, Little Warblers, and romantic books, with large coloured pictures of knights and robbers...

Trapped, she soon shared the terror of those around her. She fought her way out of the crowd and ran to a window on the Washington Place side and tried to open it. The window stuck so she smashed the glass with her hand. Somewhere in the confusion she had picked up a pail of water, and thrown it at the flames.
Hillesum, Etty. An Interrupted Life: The Diaries, 1941-1943, and Letters from Westerbork. New York: Henry Holt, 1996.
Sometimes I want to flee with everything I possess into a few words, seek refuge in them. But there are still no words to shelter me. That is the real problem. I am in search of a haven, yet I must first build it for myself, stone by stone. Everyone seeks a home, a refuge. And I am always in search of a few words.

AUTHOR: Mizuki Nomura
PARAGRAPH: I remembered Takeda mentioning that. She'd said that the moment Shuji's arrow struck the target, it had lodged in her heart as well.

AUTHOR: L.J. Smith
PARAGRAPH: No. STart screaming now and you'll never stop, she told herself. Don't think about it. You don't have to deal with it. Just find Tom.

It took a year and a half before she mastered the typing, because at night she was so tired when she went to the business school on 125th Street she couldn't seem to concentrate on what she was doing. Her back ached and her arms felt as though they had been pulled out of their sockets. But she finally acquired enough speed so that she could take a civil service examination. For she had made up her mind that she wasn't going to wash dishes or work in a laundry in order to earn a living for herself and Bub.
Douglas, Lloyd C. Magnificent Obsession. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1929.
It was more than a smile. It was a little sonata, in three movements. It arrived first in her eyes, which gradually grew wider and bluer. Almost imperceptibly, but very disturbingly, the patrician brows lifted, ever so little, as if they asked permission. That was the adagio movement.

The Looking Glass Wars: Seeing Redd by Frank Beddor
Showing proper deference to their king, these rivals to Hatter Madigan's military prowess took their leave, and before Arch had retired for the night, they crossed the border into Alyss' realm with nowhere near the cunning they might have, hoping to be seen by as many Wonderlanders as possible.
This game is awesome!

Title: Brian's Return
Author: Gary Paulsen
Paragraph: He didn't usually keep a journal, and he didn't want to lock himself into it now. But he had become very close to Caleb, in some ways closer than he was to his parents, and he thought he could keep a running letter Caleb, and instead of trying to send him pages in envelopes, he could send the book all at once when he found a way to get it out.
