I think I liked Looking for Alaska more than the other works by Green. Most seem to say that TFioS is his best work but I feel that LFA feels more raw and honest, overall.

Anyway, great progress Georgette!

I just found out that LFA is 10 years old this year! TFioS was the first of his work that I read, and I bought the entire boxed set based on it.

And they produced a special cover for this, right?

TFioS was the latest one I read. While I get and appreciate the metaphors and symbolisms that he integrated in that book, I can't bring myself to love it.

Have you watched the screen adaptation?

message 5: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments I haven't watch a movie released in the last 2 years. And I have zero compulsion to watch most screen adaptations unless I've not read the book and don't intend to, or I simply can't get through the book.

The last two films I watch were old - My Neighbour Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service.

I don't scare easily, and books commonly suggested under the horror category are casual reads to me.

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments After falling off the wagon since before Chinese New Year, I got back on board with The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. It's hard to not instantly love a book about readers, booksellers and writers.

message 8: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments Added a handful of new books which I bought and mostly read while in KL.

The Crane Wife
Strange Weather in Tokyo
The Little World of Liz Climo
Kuala Terengganu in 7 Days
Taubat Si Tanggang https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

If you're in KL, drop by Kedai Fixi at Jaya Shopping Centre to support local authors and publishers! I picked up the last two books in my list from there. If my luggage wasn't getting so heavy, I'd get more.

Azbaqiyah | 96 comments Wow!

I never know Fixi had it own store! (huhuhu katak di bawah tempurung)

If I had chances I surely go there!

I found it a bit "meh". I liked his YA books but I couldn't quite get into this one. I didn't even bring it home with me.

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments After a long hiatus, read Warm Bodies. Meh.

message 15: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments Added Nos4 R2 to 'more than 500 pages'. I was hoping this would be scary but I've read worst so it was more deliciously dark than frightening. Good read.

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments Added 20th Century Ghosts under 'Book that scares you'. Not really, but close enough. Good anthology, and definitely new favourite author!

message 18: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments Finished Hector and the Search for Happiness but don't know where to file it.
