Emily | 142 comments I’m on the last book of the Red Queen series and I still don’t know who to ship. I like how comfortable Cal and Mare are together... but I think the book would be so much better if Mare and Maven had to get over there fears together and ended up falling in love. Does anyone else feel this way?

I'm currently reading King's Cage, but I feel you. I don't know who to ship!

mohini☆ (mohiniw) | 17 comments I've already finished the series, so trust me, y'all are saving some heartbreak over NOT shipping Maven and Mare. I'd done that & suffered badly!

Madi :) | 14 comments When I first started this series I hardcore shipped Maven and Mare because I felt like they both had such complex characters. For obvious reasons, their relationship didn’t exactly work out but I never really shipped Cal and Mare. I didn’t mind their relationship but I didn’t need them to end up together. I kinda wish that Maven had a redemption arc at the end, but il happy with how the story ended.

message 5: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa (csabin18) I just finished the series 2 days ago, and to be honest, I have no idea. In the first book, I shipped Maven and Mare because I felt like they fit together so well and viewed the world in the same kind of way. But now at the end, for me it's hard not to ship Cal and Mare because they both have so much to learn from each other and seem so cute together, but it's so hard to choose. If Maven was normal (is that the right word??), I would've probably shipped Maven and Mare more than her and Cal.

I read this series a while ago now and I just loved Mare and Cal. Although, I agree it would've been good if Maven had the whole redemption thing but Mare and Cal were it for me.

Kieran | 82 comments anyone else's heart break reading the part of broken throne from Maven's perspective? That was such a moment and I literally gasped xD

I'm not even done with the series, but I HAD TO READ IT. It was wayyyyy too sadddddddd. :(

tia (t_luvsreading) | 92 comments Ahhh! I just started reading the series! I'm on chapter 11 and I'm hooked so far!

Genna | 192 comments i’ve only read the first book and at the beginning i was maven and mare all the way. until he turned out to ya know-

that one dance scene with cal and mare i cantttttt

message 11: by AnnaNeverLands (new)

AnnaNeverLands | 43 comments i think maven is psycopathic and therefore has a narrower understanding of feelings and emotions. for instance, i don't think he loved/loves/will be able to love mare, he just has a deep obsession and a need for possessiveness. (i still haven't read the last book or broken throne but this is my opinion so far)

also, if they end up together, wouldn't it be toxic and unhealthy for mare to end up with a person that has hurt her as astronomically as he has? just a though

so yeah, team cal over here! :)

message 12: by Iman (new)

Iman Edres (imanskyy) | 1 comments Cal x Mare will always be one of my YA OTPs. Sure, there was also a point in Red Queen where I shipped Mare and Maven. But, I also felt a certain pull towards Cal and when Maven turned out to be evil, I was fully Team Cal. I loved Cal and Mare's first scene in Red Queen (Mare stealing from Cal), (you'll know when you've read The Broken Throne how important this scene is). I knew, then, that these two were going to break my heart along the way. They gave off Day and June vibe. Like yeah!!

I loved how heartbreakingly beautiful the Cal x Mare relationship was throughout the series. Trust me, the tavern scene in The Broken Throne is to die for.

asteria | 2 comments LIKE THE DARKLING, MAVEN IS A LOVEABLE BUT BROKEN AND EVIL CHARACTER.
WHILE BOTH MAY DESERVE LOVE, THEY ARE HARDWIRED TO BE EVIL AND ITS UNFAIR FOR ALINA AND MARE TO BE LOVED BY A TOXIC PERSON, TRAGIC BACKSTORY AND ALL.

message 14: by hattie (new)

hattie (hattieabooks) | 60 comments I didn't like Red Queen, but before (spoiler alert) Maven betrayed them, I liked Maven better, I guess. But I definitely didn't like Cal from the beginning. But also, Maven's character was a little bland.

message 15: by Ava (new)

Ava Hall (avahall) It’s so funny because I was so angry when Cal and Mare kissed in the first book (in the dance scene) because I actually loved Maven! I was so upset when he betrayed everyone. Ironically, by the end of the series I was rooting for Cal and Mare…funny how Victoria Aveyard did that…🤔

message 16: by Sash (new)

Sash (kastajet) | 41 comments Same Ava, I thought it was wrong for Mare to cheat Maven because he seemed so innocent! I also thought that it was so cruel of him to cage something he loved. He desperately loved Mare so how could he bear to see her in that state? Maven was just messed up.

message 17: by Ava (new)

Ava Hall (avahall) My exact thoughts! I loved King’s Cage because it was so different from any other book I’ve ever read. I had a feeling that he wouldn’t be redeemed and I couldn’t help but pity him.

message 18: by Sash (new)

Sash (kastajet) | 41 comments Everything started with his mother actually. His mother made him into a merciless monster. Why did his mother do that? I think Maven could have been good but his mother made Maven a minion to do her work.

message 19: by Ava (new)

Ava Hall (avahall) She was so evil…gosh I was glad when she died. And I was glad that Mare was the one who killed her. Maven’s reaction to finding out that Mare killed his mom was something else though!

message 20: by Sash (new)

Sash (kastajet) | 41 comments Oh yeah! She was so evil. I hated that she had that power to control and search your mind. Near the end, it seemed like Maven could have redeemed himself, but he tried to kill Mare so mare killed him. It was hard on Cal though. Cal couldn't even look at Mare without thinking about his brother's death on her hands. Cal and Mare were together in the end but it was still sad because so many good people were lost.

message 21: by Ava (new)

Ava Hall (avahall) I know…I wasn’t expecting Victoria to actually kill off Maven, and I didn’t think Mare would actually be able to do it either. That was definitely a twist of events

message 22: by Sash (new)

Sash (kastajet) | 41 comments Yes, I agree. Also, the death of Shade was very sad. Farley even had his daughter! They way Shade died though, it made my cry. I was also very made that Mare did not give Ptolemus the same fate. I hate Ptolemus so much! Farley was really mad at Mare too and I guess her anger was justified. Mare did not even take revenge for her brother's death!

message 23: by Ava (new)

Ava Hall (avahall) Yes yes yes! Shade’s death was so distressing. I was waiting for it to be a ruse or something that had been planned. I didn’t want it to be real. And (dare I admit it?) I actually didn’t hate Ptolemus…and I don’t think I could explain why. I just felt like he had been told what to think, believe, and how to act from such a young age that it had been engrained into him, you know?

message 24: by lea? (new)

lea? I recently finished the series, I really hoped to see more of Mare and Maven but Cal was the guy for her honestly.

message 25: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn | 3 comments y’all i was so in love with Maven in the first book 😭 and i originally was a mare and maven shipper but after the last books, cal and mare were the best choice

message 26: by Bookbutterfly06 (new)

Bookbutterfly06 | 59 comments Ok i finished this series 2 months ago and Maven.... I honestly pity him more than anything, his mother basically brainwashed him to do her dirty work. And Cal (*spoiler warning) chose the crown over her at the end of Kings Cage so... yea. But I love Cal so much more and once I read Broken Throne I fell in love with him all over again. Broken throne is both a prequel and sequel. Ship Cal and Mare!!

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Goldstein | 131 comments I like that I had reasons to like/hate all 3 characters by the end.
