Marbeth Skwarczynski A glorious work of historical fiction, The novel follows Charlie St. Claire as she attempts to find her cousin Rose, a woman the family assumes died during WWII. Not willing to give up, Charlie runs down the few crumbs of evidence she has, including the name of a woman named Eve in London. Charlie, Eve, and Eve's driver, Finn, take on the challenge of scouring the French countryside looking for evidence of Rose's survival. While they travel, Eve opens up about her experiences in WWI as one of the Fleurs de Mal, undercover operatives in the all-female ring of spies called the Alice Network. Be prepared to become completely engulfed by this book. You'll lose sleep, skip meals, and postpone plans in your eagerness to find out what happens next.

Cathi I thought it was an amazing book.

Dion I read it a few years ago and I am still moved by how the three main characters were all affected by the war and how each dealt with it. They don’t teach about The Alice Network in schools, so it also sparked a desire to read some nonfiction about Louise de Bettignies and Edith Cavell, but I haven’t yet.

I so agree! I enjoyed the Rose Code and The Alice Network is amazing in its shifting characters experiences.
