Bruce | 3119 comments But it probably show’s that it’s a better mystery if you can’t guess.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 2698 comments mostly..many are predictable.

Kaveri BibliophileRants (bibliophilerants) My detection skills are pretty good, so I'd say I can get it right in general

Mike (tigermike) It has to be really difficult for me not too.

Richard (ricoh) | 110 comments Perhaps but it isn’t always so; as rarely do I get killer, motive and denouement.

Let's just say that it's a good reading day when I can't, and I find that it's mainly older crime that stumps me. I tend to get frustrated when I figure out the who long before I really should.

message 12: by ClaraBelle (new)

ClaraBelle (elsiecorriedale) Only once have I been able to do that, and that was when I read Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie in March 2020! I knew it was Simon and Jacqueline, the victim’s best friend and her husband.

Tammy Sometimes.

message 14: by Aima (new)

Aima (aima-w-19) | 2 comments Sometimes, but only if I make a mental list of all the characters and try to figure out who seems the least suspicious: that's the one that usually ends up being the killer! :)

message 15: by ClaraBelle (new)

ClaraBelle (elsiecorriedale) Usually who I think the killer is isn’t the killer at all, especially when I’m reading Agatha Christie’s books!

message 16: by Bruce (new)

Bruce | 3119 comments ClaraBelle, I usually can when reading Agatha Christie novels, but only because I’ve read a lot, and her formula is usually the least likely person.

Renee (elenarenee) | 182 comments Agatha had a gift for fooling me. I sometimes cant figure the killer on a reread. LOL I think that is one of the joys of getting older. I am able to reread some favorite mysteries and still be surprised

message 18: by Kaveri (new)

Kaveri BibliophileRants (bibliophilerants) I guess who it is most of the times..Agatha Christie has raised the bar for me to judge a mystery. I find it a true treat if I can crack a Christie mystery and to my delight, I have had a few successes.

Sorry, AnuLatha, but this isn't an appropriate spot for promoting your book. We have plenty of places for you to do that.

Hector Fenwick | 20 comments I challenge anyone to find the perpetrator in my book before finishing it.

message 23: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 2698 comments @ Kait, I do figure out the killers way before the end, what intrigues me is the why and sometimes the how too. however, recently I finished Rita Herron's Wildflower Graves and I was pleasantly surprised xoz I couldn't figure out the killer. I totally enjoyed it .

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) It's funny that this thread seems to have been originally posted by an author looking for some self promotion but we have kind of taken it over and turned it into a legit topic.

message 25: by Alex (new)

Alex | 2 comments It really depends on how well the book is written

Christine Mathieu | 583 comments When I watched "Twin Peaks" in the early 1990's I've recognized Laura Palmer's killer right away (in the first episode in which he was included).
