Shomeret | 1490 comments 7)Notes of Love and Warby Betty Bolté (WWII fiction) Source: Gift from Wiley via Amazon Started: 8/19 Finished: 8/24

Why Read: I accepted a review copy from Wiley because the MC is a music critic and because I'd read and reviewed the author's previous novel about Martha Washington.

Comments: I liked the music aspect best. I gave it a B+ See my review at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2...

8)Fowl Murder by Victoria Tait (Kenya mystery) Source: Amazon Started: 8/24 Finished: 8/28

Why Read: I liked the prequel for the Kenya setting and the MC.

Comments: Rose Hardie is the MC. She's a veterinary paraprofessional. The victim is Aisha, a lawyer who defended Rose when she was accused of shooting a poacher. Rose and Aisha's characters are well developed. I also learned about Kenya's history. I gave it a B because the mystery was predictable. See my review at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2...

9)The Anatomist's Secret by Noah Alexander (historical mystery) Source: Story Origin Started: 8/28 Finished: 8/30

Why Read: I read the prequel. The female detective is a Sherlock Holmes type which I hadn't expected, but what I liked most is that the series takes place in 19th century India.

Comments: Well-written mystery and I learned a great deal about how those who were studying human anatomy in the 19th century got their corpses to study. I gave it a B+ but see my comments in my review about something I found disgusting. My review is at https://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/2...

So nine reads isn't bad at all, and I had A rated books, one of which is what I consider the best novel I've read in 2020 so far.
