Back in July I stumbled upon Tor.com's 2020 Debut Sampler. It reminded me that I keep telling myself I'm going to read more new authors and then completely fail to do so unless they end up being book picks here.

In an effort to help me change that habit I decided to make a list of debut works for this year. If you're interested in helping me track down more or just want to checkout the list you can find it here.

Trike | 11211 comments A Memory Called Empire was a debut, too.

I also saw on Tor debut author Karen Osborne’s Architects of Memory.

Oh, and Axiom's End by Lindsay Ellis.

I read The Seep and gave it five stars, but I'd probably give it 4 today. Something about it really struck me.

I have Docile and Finna on my shelves to read....

Thanks for the suggestions Trike. I've added them to the list.

I enjoyed Finna. It's an interesting take on a portal fantasy and might make a good pairing with this month's pick for anyone that burns through it quickly or has already read it.

(In 2019, yes, but new to you in 2020!)

Time expands as you get older. Therefore to me anything written since 1991 is new.

Also, when someone my age says something happened “the other day” they mean that it occurred any time between last Tuesday and 1985.

Are you ready for the end?

An ancient tomb is unearthed live on cable TV after months of hype. It's billed as the archeological equivalent of Shark Week. The actual footage takes a turn no one ever expected. Those minutes of footage will be combed over by governments worldwide seeking to understand what horror came out of that tomb.

They watched the news for weeks as an infection spread quickly across the globe. The videos posted online of people ripping into each other like cannibals on PCP were unreal. The support from the authorities was a joke. No one had a plan in place for this. At least not a plan that involved saving everyone...

Join a tight knit family of outcasts who'll do anything for one another as they battle their way through this freak show. A reality where might makes right and the only thing worse than running out of food and water is running out of ammunition.
