MountainKat | 31633 comments The Amazing Race Team Challenge - Round 2
September 13, 2020 through November 8, 2020
It's Not a Sprint, It's a Marathon!

Challenge Dates:
Signups open until September 12, 2020 at 9 PM US EDT.
Remaining Teams Assigned after signups close on September 12, 2020.
First Task Assigned September 13, 2020 at 6 PM US EDT.
Challenge Ends on November 8, 2020 at Midnight US EST, tasks will not be accepted after this time.

The Amazing Race Team Challenge is a team challenge where you get to form your teams! Of course, you can also sign up on your own and be added to others to form teams too. 😊 Each team will work together to complete tasks. Once complete, you will be given another task to complete. After the first task, teams will be on different paths with tasks randomly assigned. The same tasks may be assigned to different teams at different times, but no task will be used more than once by the same team. Each team works at their own pace and the team that completes the most tasks at the end of 8 weeks will be the winner!

Teams will consist of 4 members. Participants need to be 18 years of age or older. Please sign up in this thread and indicate if you are signing up as a team or if you are looking for a team. Please note that some tasks require the teammates to read the same genre, author or even the same series, make sure you find like minded teammates when forming your teams!! If you are signing up as a team, every team member will need to sign up. You may also sign up as a partial team and either add people as individuals sign up or have them added at the end of signups to bring your team to full strength. If signing up individually, you can include favorite genres/sub-genres and any other preferences to help with matching to like-minded teammates. You may find friends also signing up and form your own teams after signing up as well. I will do my best to match teams from any remaining individuals. Remember signing up individually might mean you get to find new friends! Teams will appoint a leader to keep track of the team's progress through each task.

After the first task is given to everyone, when a team finishes their task they will need to report their completion in the Tracking/Q&A thread. I will confirm the completion and assign their next task. New tasks will not be assigned more frequently than every other day. I will attempt to respond quickly to confirm completion and assign new tasks, but please allow up to 24 hours. If I am unavailable, another mod will assign the task.

Each teammate will need to participate in each task, but may take a pass for one task during the course of the challenge. For some tasks, no passes will be allowed. Completions posts will need to be made when finishing each book for a task, similar to the PtP and Bachelor Challenges. A player will be removed if they make no comment for 5 days after a new task is assigned or 3 days after the rest of the team completes the task (whichever is later), despite attempts to make contact. It is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing!

There is a 150 page minimum for books, rereads and audios ok. Books may only be used once per player during the challenge. Players may read the same book for a task unless otherwise specified. Books do not have to be romance, but must be fiction.

CB (cb33) | 1312 comments Yes! I loved this challenge, so much fun. Please sign me up as looking for a team of like minded individuals. These days I read about 6 - 8 books per week, and I love Urban Fantasy and all kinds of romance, including paranormal, sports, contemporary, and sci-fi/fantasy romance.

Thanks for taking on this awesome challenge again, MKat!

message 12: by Trip (last edited Sep 05, 2020 04:08AM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Yay! Im glad bringing back this challenge, i had so much fun last time. Thank you Mkat 🎉

I read a variety of genres but always involve some romance, also mainly mm these days however i do read the occasional mf as well. I have just gone back into work this month, so won't be as fast as last time and depends how overlaps with other challenges. But i can read anywhere from 3 to 7 books a week 😊

message 13: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 332 comments I would love to play again. Looking for a team. I read any genre and about 2-3 books a week...sometimes more.

message 14: by Nayara (new)

Nayara (nayalink) | 630 comments I'm in and looking for a team!
I love to read romance, specialy Paranormal and UF. Honestly, I think the only subgenre that I strugle is YA but I can read one book if needed.

message 15: by Amanda (last edited Sep 04, 2020 07:13PM) (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 4053 comments I'm in, looking for a team!

I read 99.99% MM, so it would probably be best if my teammates also read MM lol. I especially read a lot of fantasy, paranormal, mystery and all the subgenres associated with those! I read *mumbles* about 5-15 books a week (got up to 25 a couple times during the bachelor challenge), so I can definitely be on a competitive team, but I also am really only competitive with my own goals so would be happy on a more leisurely team as well!

message 16: by Hayde (new)

Hayde | 207 comments This sounds exciting! I’ll like to participate. I’m looking for a team. I like to read romance or books that contain a romance subplot. Preferred sub genres are historical, fantasy, contemporary. But I’m open to read other books. I can read 2-4 books a week.

message 17: by Trio (new)

Trio | 2789 comments I'd love to do the challenge again - but this time I'd prefer to have teammates who read mostly MM too. Amanda, do you want to start a team with me?

Also - I'm not super, duper competitive - so if you want to come in 1st place I'd hate to disappoint, it's okay if you want to wait for different folks to make up your team :) I just want to have fun and read some books!

message 18: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'm in too - but 99% MM reader and not reading a huge amount at the moment but hopefully my crazy work load will lighten soonish :)

I’d love to! I’m totally fine not playing super competitively, I’ll probably do my books really quickly, but would never get upset if someone else didn’t.

ETA: I don’t know if you know Janine (JaneyLou), but I did talk to her about teams before the challenge was announced so I’m gonna check if she still needs one too

message 22: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1830 comments Looking for a team: I love romance and I do read just about any sub-genre in that category. I can/will/do also read Urban Fantasy, Y/A, Paranormal, Mystery/Thriller/Suspense, Women's Fictions, Erotica, and also some Non-fiction (usually bios)

My reading fluctuates from 2 to more a week. I try to stretch it by mixing reading and listening. So that I can read at least 2 books at a time.

I have been known to put myself on a reading schedule for challenges when I'm trying to read more (only when I commit to several in a week).

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1703 comments I'm in again! I loved this challenge. I read Urban fantasy, PRN, contemporary romance, and some YA. I'm in two other challenges right now so I need a team who isn't super competitive, just in it for the fun. I read about 2-3 romance books a week sometimes more but I also am reading some mysteries because of a cozy challenge I'm doing.

message 28: by Madelyn (new)

Madelyn (madelynkontis) | 108 comments Put me on a team! I read a lot of M/M. I haven't been reading more than a book every two weeks because of work, but I'll get it done. Besides, I can't find the next two books for my book club, so I'll have time to read other stuff.

message 29: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 437 comments I haven't done this before, but sounds fun. I am also in 2 other challenges, so can only say 2 books per week for this since books may not work to cross over between challenges. I read most genres of romance but not big on LGBT, will also read other genres.

Christina T, we seem similar want to start a team?

I would also like to be on your team! I work two jobs and have 4 kids so I’m not super competitive and this team environment seems perfect. I can try being the captain, it might help me in being accountable.. I read all sub genres of romance.

Hi Cb, it looks like we read the same types of books and I can read up to 5 and 6 books depending on my reading time if you would like to start a team with me I would love that, but I am not captain material.

MountainKat | 31633 comments I'll work on updating this thread later! I'm happy to see some returning and some new faces too. 😊

As for being the team leader, in this challenge it isn't much really. No major tracking or anything. Mostly just guiding discussions towards decisions really, maybe helping to keep everyone on track. Anyone can notify me when your team has finished a task. As you can move at whatever pace your team decides, my goal is for this to be more easy-going than other team challenges! 🤞🏼
