A.K. Larkwood has written an phenomenal story, intertwining High Fantasy and Science Fiction, building a world and characters that pulled me in from page 1. Orcs, magicians, portals-Oh My!
Csorwe (rhymes with doorway) is a young girl brought up in fanatical religion that has chosen her to be the bride of the Unspoken. In a nutshell that means she will be sacrificed. The day of the sacrifice ritual she is visited by a stranger who convinces her to abandon her beliefs and come away with him. Csorwe spends years training to be an assassin and the adventure takes off.
The world Larkwood has built is so unusual you cannot help admiring her work. It was nearly 5 stars for me. However, the last 1/3 of the book seemed overdone and it dragged a bit. I may rethink this and up the it to 5 stars. This is a first in a series and I will definitely move onto book 2.
What a fabulous debut!
