Oh say, can you see
By the dawn's early light?
What so proudly we once hailed;
But somehow, we've lost sight.
The marriage vow used to end,
"Till death do us part."
Today the marriage lasts
Until the first fight starts.
The news of a child to come
Was once considered a thrill.
Today an unborn's life is ended
With a knife or pill.
Soldiers are sent off to war
With flags and proud songs.
But when some return home broken,
they're told they must move on.
There are signs up everywhere
That read help wanted full and part time.
Then why do many unemployed
Just sit around and whine?
Oh say, can you see
By the dawn's early light?
What so proudly we once hailed;
But somehow, we've lost sight.
