Paul Hook | 16 comments Hello everyone, as a new author, I am hoping that many of you out there are in or are interested in joining a Writer's Group.

Please let me know if you are in a group and have a spot for me to join, or if you are new like me and want to create a new group.

Thanks!

Penelope Swan (penelopekahlerswan) | 191 comments I will be interested in which Writer's Groups you join on Goodreads and what your opinion is of them, Paul.

message 3: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Bess | 4 comments Same here.

Penelope Swan (penelopekahlerswan) | 191 comments Any response for Joanna and me, Paul?

message 5: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Hi all. I haven’t heard back from anyone. But if you two want to start a writing group let’s do it

message 6: by Penelope (new)

Penelope Swan (penelopekahlerswan) | 191 comments Paul, what would be the purpose of our group?

Wendy (goodreadscomwendygoult) | 10 comments Hi Paul - how would this group work?

message 8: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Hi all. I actually found a great website that lists 50 sites for critique groups and writing groups. Give it a read and let me know if you want to form a small group - no more than 6/8. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll check out some of the links. https://thewritelife.com/find-a-criti...

Ayomide Ruth Oluwagbenga (ayomiderutholuwagbenga) | 1 comments We can form a new group here and have defined purpose for it and how it would operate.

My suggestion is that, it should have an aim of connecting different authors to promote each other's works through reading, review, adverts and even link to other connections and opportunities.

message 10: by Ikhlas (new)

Ikhlas Hussain (ikhlashussain) | 2 comments I'm interested! but I think it might be beneficial for us to list our genres because critique groups are generally genre based right? Because not everyone enjoys reading every genre...

message 11: by Ikhlas (new)

Ikhlas Hussain (ikhlashussain) | 2 comments And Paul, that list of critique groups looks super helpful! I've been trying to find one too and haven't had much luck so I really appreciate a list like this

message 12: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments My pleasure Ikhlas. I agree with the comment about genre. I’m not sure about starting the group on goodreads. It would probably be better on Zoom and through email as we will be sending each other information. My genre of writing is a little bit scattered right now. I’m righting mystery, a historical fiction and short stories.

message 13: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments And, I found a great site on the mistakes of critiquing as well as a link to a critique checklist. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.write...

message 14: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Is there a website?

message 15: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Much appreciated!

message 16: by Shalu (new)

Shalu Gupta | 17 comments Count me in.

message 17: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Shaky, was that count me in for a critique/writers group?

message 18: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Sorry. Autocorrect got me. I’m searching for those interested in a writing/critique group. I’m not very interested at this time in paying for services.

message 19: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel Van Der Merwe (gabrielvandermerwe) | 1 comments Hey Paul. Any room left in that writers group of yours? I would love to get in touch.

message 20: by Janette (new)

Janette Fuller (janbfull) | 5 comments Hi Paul, hi all,

Paul, if you create a writer's group here, I will be interested, depending on the purpose of the group.

I created a writing group on FB which is still in the initiating phase. To date, I have posted a few verses of a whimsical poem and invited 5 people to join.

The group is for aspiring writers to share bits of their work and to get critique from members.

In addition, to being a part of Paul's group, you may pop over to The Writing Room at the link below to start sharing snippets of your work for us to enjoy and critique.

Regards,
Janette

Paul Hook | 16 comments Our group is created. If interested in joining, please email me at [email protected]

message 22: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Kennedy | 55 comments Hi Paul. What an interesting idea. How would the group work?
Is it mixed genre or one genre?

message 23: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments The group has 3 members. we have discussed focusing on short stories for now, all genres. There is a potential to branch out from that, but as it has just started, we are unsure.

message 24: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Hey everyone, just wanted to update that the group has 6 members, 3 post regularly and we have branched out to writing prompts as well as edits/comments for novels.
It's a weekly posting (if you want) and the feedback has allowed all of us to grow as authors. We still have plenty of space if you are looking to work with likeminded authors to hone your skills and perfect your craft

message 25: by Tia (new)

Tia Dhar | 13 comments Hi Paul. I am interested in joining. It would be great to be with like minded authors, and grow and nurture our craft.

I am about to put the finishing touches to my latest but am interested in what you can offer?

Vikas (vikaskhair) | 86 comments Same here I would love to know amazing people like you guys.

message 28: by Jim (new)

Jim Riley | 36 comments I'm interested. I've written and had published over 20 short stories (mystery/thriller). Also have some novels published in the same genre. Don't know if I fit, but interested.

message 30: by Meg (new)

Meg Barber | 12 comments Hi I am interested, but I write romance and am not sure you aren't all hard-core guys. Anyone interested in the fluffy stuff?

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Hard-core guys LOL!!!

I write Lovecraft and Noir mainly, so no hardcore for me either :)

message 32: by Tia (new)

Tia Dhar | 13 comments I have recently published a novel in the contemporary romance and mystery genre.

Next month I plan to start the first round of edits on a romance novella.

message 33: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Peck | 35 comments I write mystery paranormal. Does that work?

message 34: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments Anyone interested in the critique group, please send an email to [email protected]. We do the critique through google drive and I can share with you the outline of how we run the critique group. It’s great to see all of the interest!!!

message 35: by Paul (new)

Paul Hook | 16 comments We don’t have specific genres. We share what we are writing and provide honest and thoughtful feedback. We are also doing writing prompts. Just started those about 10 days ago
