Theresa | 15595 comments It is still Tuesday somewhere!

My news: I led a panel in a webinar today about real estate issues in NYC in a pandemic, what to know and anticipate. We had over 90 registrants on zoom! Well received too.

I had a crazy day and am only now watching the debate preshow on MSNBC and then check on the debate circus itself. Another big day tomorrow.

Reading is taking a back seat.

Charlotte | 1701 comments I blocked out the debates. I knew it would just make me anxious and I know who I'm voting for.

I have AMAZING news! I made it to the crazy full day round of interviews at Amazon for the job that I REALLY, REALLY want!! That means they must not have proceeded with the internal candidate. I wish whoever that person is the best but I'm so excited! It all went down last night.

I'm scheduled to talk to the recruiter about compensation and all that fun stuff on the 13th. Then I have a writing assignment I have to complete by the 15th. Finally, I have a gauntlet of interviews with 5 people on the 20th. I feel good and am happy that I have plenty of time to prepare. I'll work with the career coach I'm working with and will knock this out of the park!!

I've had a bunch of interest in my resume all of a sudden. I 100% believe it has to do with a change of attitude and mindset on my part. I'm ready now. I have an interview with another company tomorrow and figure if nothing else, it is good practice for the one with Amazon.

I'm also going to keep applying, there is a job I'm qualified for with Blue Nile which I think would be fun. Even though I don't wear a ton of jewelry, I've always had an interest in gemology. I'm also applying to companies that sound like they have a good culture or who are trying to make a change, like Nordstrom.

So continue thinking good thoughts about a job for me!!!

Otherwise we are trying to get everything ready for winter while we have a last bit of summer. I'll be painting the front deck of my tiny home today and making Phad Thai from scratch for the first time!!

All good things!!!

You are 100% correct about your own positive change in energy bringing more opportunities your way. I have seen it again and again.

I didn't totally have faith but now I do. I essentially told the Universe that I was ready and to lay it on me and I found the job posting for this Amazon job. Since then as I get interest I just keep saying, "Yes, please, more of this!!!" I've also been making sure to listen to positive and happy music and I've been dancing more. I've been avoiding things like the debate, that I know will bring me down. But right now, I just want positivity :)

Like you, I'm not watching the debate because I know it will just make me angry and my blood pressure will go up. I hate being in that mood!

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 983 comments Congratulations Charlotte.
I just picked up my 11-year old from a friend. They had watched some of the debate. His comment on the way home: 'All Biden and Trump did, were bullying each other'. I haven't watched it, but that seems a fair assessment.

That all sounds wonderful Charlotte. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

As for the debate, I didn't watch it. It would take a lot for me to watch any kind of debate but I was pretty sure this would disintegrate into a bully session. I am even more worried about the country after hearing about this. If this was bad the results of the election, either way, will be just terrible. **shiver**

Hilde (hilded) | 472 comments Good luck, Charlotte, exciting news!
I had the worst timing changing jobs just before the Corona pandemic hit, so I have spend the last half year trying to teach myself everything about my new company from my "home office", not the best start not being able to getting training from my new colleagues in person. But it goes better each passing day.

There have been a number of articles on this topic - how difficult it actually is to manage teams and break in new employees with remote working. I can only imagine. As a lawyer my work is somewhat isolated anyway - all one-on-one with clients, colleagues, opponents and frankly all I want to do is not talk to anyone for a few days! Which I'm doing next week!

Glad it is getting better. Personally I have found it hard adjusting to WFH and though I've made peace with it and do go into my office periodically, and it is in truth not ideal, it was a rapid transition because I'm a solo practitioner anyway. Most of my colleague interactions were already by phone and email.

Glad to hear it is getting better, and I'm sure you are very grateful to have a job!

Are you taking a "holiday" (from work... I assume no one is going very far from home!)?

Either way, enjoy your few days not talking to anyone! :-)

I am GOING AWAY! And OFF GRID! Mohonk Mountain House www.mohonk.com. I can engage with others or not. Be social or anti. Weather will be cool, trees should be turning and though likely rainy, it will still be beautiful. I have a room with a woodburning fireplace. *Sigh*

And I feel I can control my environment there and stay safe. I also have told my client I will be off grid. My away messages will say the same.

I leave sunday morning. It is only an hour and a half bus ride from NYC, but it will be my first steps outside not only NYC but Manhattan since February. Unreal.

But I have a lot to do tomorrow, Saturday...work related mostly.

I never watch them because, and this is probably my Canadian background showing, it irks me that it's only between two parties. It doesn't matter to me what the reasoning for this is, nor does it mean I like any of the other parties, it just means that I dislike it and I think it is not particularly open. What if someone else was the best debater? How would it change things to hear other sides? Would we get better information?

Bon voyage!

In the words of Roy Rogers:

Happy trails to you, until we meet again
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again
Some trails are happy ones
Others are blue
It's the way you ride the trail that counts
Here's a happy one for you

Happy trails to you, until we meet again
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again

Precisely, which is why I meet MANY people who, like me, are unenrolled/independent.

Theresa | 15595 comments Thanks all!

Obviously there won't be a new KaffeKlatsch started by me on Tuesday - feel free to do so if you want or just continue posting to this one.

Have a great week all. I'm planning cozy fires, superb food, lovely wine, and lots and lots of rocking on the porch overlooking either the lake or the mountains and reading.

Charlotte - will be sending you positive energy and good job vibes!

message 33: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 112 comments Hey there,

not much news here, but I've been following yours. I am trying to get some correcting and marking done these days. Lots of work and trying something new to get my health in order. Have started a diet without any kinds of sugar, yeast or (processed) wheat. It's hard, but after a few days I am starting to get the hang of it. I hope I'll only have to do it for about 4-6 weeks for it to have a positive effect. We'll see.

Good luck to you, Charlotte, and good travels to you, Theresa!

And to everyone else also good vibes.
Enjoy your sundays, everyone!

Yes, those articles sounds spot it! It’s very inefficient for sure, which is a bit frustrating. I also went from a ‘safe’ industry (food industry/fish farming) to the travel industry, so yeah just bad timing on my end. Wouldn’t have said yes to the new job had I known what was coming. But I’m a pretty easy going person luckily, so I just take one day at the time. It will all work out one way or another in the end ;)

Your trip sounds amasing!! Enjoy, and don’t let work interfer on your (probably much needed) vacation! :)

message 35: by Sallys (new)

Sallys | 694 comments I am going back in to my school tomorrow. I've been teaching remotely. I'm very anxious, more about adjuting to this hybrid model and coordinating the in person with the remote. We haven't had any training and I feel like it's going to be a mess. I had really mastered the remote and felt good about what I was doing. I've been teaching live remote six hours a day. So this is very stressful for me.

message 36: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments Thank you all! My career coach told me to go ahead and craft my announcement post to you all when I get it to continue the positive thinking and visualization. I never imagined I would find such an amazing and supportive group and I'm so thankful for these weekly posts and for all of you that participate in them!

Theresa - I am so happy you are taking some time to get away and relax. I would be more than happy to start the post in your absence.

I feel very fortunate in my job search. When I relaxed and trusted that everything would work out the way that it is supposed to, that's when I started to have a ton of interest in my resume and me. I had three interviews for a position this past week, but when I realized that I would probably say No if I got an offer from them, I think they might have picked up the vibes from me. I have an interview with another company on this coming Fri and I've been working on my writing assessment for the Amazon position. If I get offers from the two that I want it's going to be hard to make a decision. At Amazon I'll have to work hard but it's my sweet spot... I'll eventually have to commute to an office again but they have tons of perks. The other is offering partial remote... wfh with two days in the office and from what I understand it'll be no stress and they are all about health including mental health.

Good luck Sallys! Stay safe!!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12598 comments @Miram-good to hear from you! Good luck with the diet-I hope that you get the results you are looking for.

@ Sallys-I have empathy for all teachers in normal times-with the world in chaos, cripes, you all should get hazard pay, and I am not joking. Good luck with the new routine, I am sure you will find a way to make it work for you and your students.

Joanne, I found out that my goodreads problem is a widespread one. When i went on footnotes to get the zoom link, I saw Nicole posted about it, and everybody is having a site wide problem with the notifications and discussions. i was glad i found that thread, so I don't have to worry.
