A friend of mine from school went to Sheffield University 1981-84, when all the ABCs, Cabaret Voltaires, Human Leagues, etc. were emerging from The People's Republic of South Yorkshire. He was always talking about The Limit and The Leadmill. I didn't know The Limit was so scuzzy. Actually the only club I ever went to with him was the Hippodrome in Birmingham (to see Cabaret Voltaire). As that later became the home of the Sadlers Wells Ballet you can guess that it was slightly more up-market.

theDuke | 6492 comments And that's another round done and dusted folks.

And this week's winners won't have to squeeze their selves on that creaking podium like last week..as we have clear set of winners this time.

The king of time, is the king of blues, BB King snatches the lead by a humble point, thus Serial gets to summit that knackered podium. Well done sah.

Lez takes takes the middle spot with her John Cale nom..and finally Gordon fills the remain spot for nom'ing the Saxon track.

Well done all...a much simpler round up this week...not even a wooden spooner either...which i was hoping to score with my Four Tet nom! :)

I schlepped over from Grimbo to see that gig Lez. You're right to regret not going, it was gob-smacking. One of the band went round bashing the others over the head with a metal tray.

Edit - nothing to fear about the Leadmill so long as you're not down the front if a moshpit gets going or so long as you're not in the side room where the bar is to see Psychedelic Porn Crumpets when roughly 80% of the room was a heaving moshpit; not an experience a delicate flower like myself would wish to repeat.

I think I only went to 2 gigs there, the other being the awesome Defunkt - the walls were running with condensation/sweat.

PPC concerts aren't that hectic Brassy.....i went to see them in Cardiff last year..it were okay. Granted, there were only about 200 of us there in this tiny venue....but i enjoyed it. Then again i was completely bladdered that night..so if anything unsavoury happened that night..i certainly didn't notice! :)

The gig I went to only had around 200 punters and 150 of them created a huge whirling slamming moshpit. I've genuinely never experienced anything so intense and uncomfortable in nigh-on half a century of gig-going. Mebbes there's summat in t'beer in Sheffield sets 'em off?

theDuke | 6492 comments I don't think that one is in production any more Brassneck, they stopped making it a while back. But they do make a nice drop with the Rev James.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Rest assured it's not worth going to the Leadmill for the quality of the beer. Some sort of keg overpriced (more than a fiver a pint) 'American Pale Ale - Shed Head, brewed in ..... no, not America or the UK but in Sweden.
