The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black- This series went out with a bang for sure. It really was so much fun to dive into this series, the most fun I’ve had in a while reading a new series. Highly recommend this series if you are into YA fantasy series.
Breaking Dawn, Twilight / Life and Death: Twilight Re-imagined, and Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer- So, I may have dived too hard into the Twilight world and worn myself out a bit. I listened to the audiobook of Breaking Dawn first and enjoyed it like I did with listening to all the other books in the series. It’s fun to remember those small moments you forget about when you haven’t read a book/series in over ten years. Then I ran into problems trying to listen to the audiobook of Life and Death while reading Midnight Sun. Now that I think about it was probably less so too much Twilight and more so that I was essentially listening to and reading the same book simultaneously, because let’s be honest, these books are both basically Twilight. Midnight Sun did have some extra stuff to add throughout. I loved getting a better look at the Cullen’s relationships with each other and honestly feel like I understand Bella and Edward’s intense relationship a little better. Although, some of the thoughts thrown in there seem like Stephanie Meyer trying to say “See, this thing that happened wasn’t as problematic as it seemed!”, ie: Edward having moral qualms over watching Bella sleep without her knowledge. I enjoyed the bits in Phoenix a lot as well while Bella was with the tracker/in the hospital. That was probably the most interesting part of the story to see Edward's POV in. It was just so hard to read at some points because of already knowing the story/listening to Life and Death at the same time. Life and Death however, was just not super interesting at all. I knew it was going to be pretty much the same book, but I didn’t expect an exact replica. I stuck it out because I heard the ending was different and I was curious to see how. It was worth it in some ways, not in others. The ending was interesting, but the last chapter is basically the next three books of the series in one chapter and tries to explain too much too fast. Also the more I think about the ending, the more frustrating it is. It just seemed to gloss over the whole situation too easily.
The Heir Affair by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan- When I heard there was going to be a sequel to The Royal We, I instantly jumped on adding it to my TBR. I loved The Royal We and this sequel did not disappoint. I was a little upset that Nick and Freddie’s relationship didn’t get more explanation, but I understand that they weren’t the narrators and there was personal work on their ends that wasn’t seen by Bex. Can I just say too that I loved Eleanor in this one, although it did wear off at the end with some of her actions involving a certain private family scandal.
