Charlotte | 1701 comments Good Morning to my dearest PBT friends!!

While Theresa is enjoying her much deserved relaxing vacation, I thought I would start this week's post.

I'm still speechless by all of y'all's support and positivity! I'm working on the writing assignment for Amazon this week, I'm writing about a time that I had to make a judgement without much information to go off of.

I haven't heard back after the whirlwind of interviews I had with another job last week, but I'm not surprised. More interviews are on the calendar this week. And my old boss reached out and needs help with another of their customers. I hate going in when the customer is already mad and frustrated but it'll keep me busy for the next couple of weeks.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12594 comments @ Charlotte, from past experience, I know having the old boss admit he needs you, although tiresome to fix someone else's mess, can make ya smirk, just a bit-LoL, so there's that.

We finally got the sunshiney back yesterday, so I spent the day picking what will probably be the last of the bounty. I wish I lived somewhere with a longer growing season *sigh*. However, it was a stellar year for almost everything. Miss Lola had her share of the beans and cucumbers (yes she does pick them herself) and decided this year, that she likes tomatoes....

Wishing you all a good week and hope everyone is well, safe and happy

message 3: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) My husband lost his company at the beginning of the pandemic. All the investors pulled out and the company couldn’t continue without financial help. Ever since then my husband has been looking for a new job but he is over qualified for most or under qualified for others because he never finished his bachelors. Long story short, he still hasn’t found a new job.

He decided to go back to school and finish his bachelors even amid the pandemic. He has two classes on campus and everything else is online to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Well, our worst fears came true today. He received an email from one of his on campus teachers today saying one of his classmates tested positive for COVID.

My husband and I are now in quarantine until his test results come back. The antibodies test was negative. But the current infections test will take up to 48 hours.

I hope he’s negative.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12594 comments Oh Jenni! Good Vibes coming to you and all of yours! And hugs too

message 5: by annapi (new)

annapi | 5505 comments That's terrible, Jenni! Hopefully you will all test negative. My husband and I got tested last week before he went to NM to visit his mother who was having surgery. Our test results came back next day (negative) even though they told us it would take 72 hours.

Sending you hugs!

message 6: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments Jenni, I so hope he is negative!!

I know a lot of people going back to school right now.

Jenni, prayers abound....

Theresa, come back! I have something on the tip of my toungue to share with you!

Hope everyone stays healthy......

message 9: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Thanks, everyone! Still no word which is expected since it’s less than 24 hours. I’m just antsy.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8426 comments Charlotte - great news! So happy for you ... and thanks for keeping us updated.

Jenni - prayers and good wishes headed your way. Those 72 hours are LONG ones. I had to get a COVID test during the summer in preparation for some surgery.... I was on pins and needles ... certainly didn't help my blood pressure any.... It wasn't til I got to the hospital for the procedure that they told me I was negative (and the nurse seemed surprised that no one had contacted me).

message 12: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I took a Covid test so I could have my colonoscopy and didn't find out until a week after my procedure that I was negative.

message 13: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 983 comments When I was recently tested positive the worst was the wait to see if any loved ones or colleagues had got it. If you didn't see my comment at the time: they all tested negative and I had very mild symptoms.
Hang in there Jenni.

message 14: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 983 comments ... and we all waited 48 hours.

I am surprised no one contacted you, too! If you weren't supposed to show up at all if you were positive that would have been good to know BEFORE you showed up! Maybe it would have been more of a priority to let you know if it had been positive?

Anyway, good luck, Jenni!

message 16: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Thanks, everyone! Test results are back. They're negative! Woot woot!

Good luck with your interviews, Charlotte!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12594 comments Need good thoughts for Miss Lola tonight-She may have broken her new spare parts. UGH! She sees the Vet first thing in the morning. If I have to spend another 4-5 months with the cone of shame, I am running away from home (hopefully somewhere there is free WI-Fi)

message 22: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15586 comments I am back! Feeling refreshed and already planning a similar escape in early December. It was easy to social distance at Mohonk and felt quite safe. I wasn't feeling particularly sociable but still had some nice exchanges when in mood.

@Jenni - so happy about your negative results!

@Charlotte - love all the great synergy happening for you! Keep those reports coming.

@Amy - spill!

@Joanne - come to NYC...Manhattan still hotspot free, you won't be bored, and lots of free WiFi to be had.

Charlotte | 1701 comments I just finished a job interview with a company called Limeade. They work with corporations to provide them with an app for employee mental and physical wellness. I should know next week if I get moved to next steps. When (not if... look at that positivity) I get offers to both Amazon and Limeade it's going to be a tough choice.

I finished my AMZN writing assignment first draft and will be spending the weekend tweaking it with the plan of handing it on Mon. My meeting with the AMZN recruiter is on Tues. And the all day gauntlet interview is on the 20th.

My career coach told me to writing a journal entry dated Dec 30, 2021 and speak in present tense about what happened and what I'm doing. He also told me to write a draft of my post to you guys announcing my new job. I plan to do all of that envisioning/vision manifestion work this weekend/next week.

I feel good! I feel like in a few weeks I will be announcing my new awesome job! Then I will be buying so, so many books! And so many pajama pants!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11090 comments Charlotte, congratulations on your job search good news! If it's not too personal, I'd love to hear about what you do. (Or maybe wait until after you get the job?)

Jenni, congrats on the negative test, and congrats to your husband for going back to school.

Theresa, welcome back! I'm glad you had a nice time. It's also great to know that NYC is doing so well re covid. If I run away from home, it will be to visit some art museums in the city. I just took a bunch of art books out from the library to hold me over.

The Covid numbers in my sister's area have jumped up since school started, so she had to postpone her visit to us until she gets another test. Mom is really anxious to see her.

What I do for a living? Or what I do in these ridiculously intense interviews?

It's similar positions for both Amazon and Limeade... Sr. Product Manager.

The Amazon job is really made for me... It's expanding the functionality of a digital contract management system

For the last 5 years I've been a subject matter expert on contracts. First as a vendor at Microsoft where I built out functionality around creating a digital contract and then starting in Jan 2019 I oversaw the implementation of a tool called Icertis Contract Management at a bunch of different companies. That's also what I've been doing since I quit, but more as a project manager.

The job at Limeade would be building out the functionality of logging into the app or website. It would mean building out the ability to do single sign on, so when you log into your work computer it takes care of logging into a bunch of applications across the board. I have knowledge of integrating with authentication systems but I'm not sure if I can get excited about it.

The client that I've been helping really wants to hire me but they aren't ready. The VP I worked with there wants to create a contracting center of excellence with me leading it. I would continue the expansion of the ICM tool I deployed there and it's integration with other systems. I would also develop policy and procedures around the contract process. So hopefully they'll be ready for me around the time that I don't have to worry about my non-compete any longer.

Thank you all for your support!!!!!

Thank you Theresa and so good to have you back! I'm so glad that you had a great time away.

They are now doing travel Covid tests here and I know some states are making you quarantine if you don't have proof of a recent negative test.

Sure, but of course if you'd been positive they'd have rescheduled your colonoscopy :) ie if people are being tested before a test or procedure, if you are allowed to to through with it, you should have tested negative.

LibraryCin | 11704 comments Numbers in Canada - particularly Ontario and Quebec... and Alberta are going up again. Ontario has had a couple of days recently where the highest numbers tested positive since this all started. Alberta also had its highest day a few days ago.

Now, Ontario and Quebec are adding additional restrictions. Alberta - additional "restrictions" are voluntary. Ugh! Voluntary doesn't work - we found that out with masks.

Edmonton is much harder hit than Calgary (where I am) now, and that is opposite of what it was early on.

Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend, so I am expecting to see numbers (despite the voluntary restrictions) go higher in the next couple of weeks.

And my parents want to come visit at Christmas. They stay with me when they visit. Sigh... It's just not a good idea.

It's tough to manage seeing family.

My husband's parents are coming in a few weeks and I'm so thankful that we have the tiny house for them to stay in. I just don't know how to handle them interacting with my mom. They are all good friends but I don't want to put my 73 yo mom at risk. My husband's parents are coming from FL. And his mom is a nurse in a NICU.

Robin P | 5767 comments Wisconsin, where I live, is terrible. It started with students but now it is people in the smaller towns who were not abiding by recommendations. My neighborhood is ok and everyone here is good about masks.

We are trying to figure out what to do at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I refuse to get together with more than one other person. I think we will go to our daughter in St. Louis. She is still having some cancer treatments but feeling very well. But for Christmas we can't see both her and our son at the same time because he works in a retail location and she feels that is too risky.

Robin, I've noticed that Wisconsin has many Covid cases. Stay safe.

We are finally coming down to more comfortable where I live in CA, but with the winter flu/cold season coming on, I don't feel comfortable. I will continue to avoid restaurants and gatherings and I will continue to wear my mask.

LibraryCin | 11704 comments Joanne wrote: "Oh geez-and they think this is a good idea, why????..."

It's been over a year since I've seen them. They want to continue to live their lives. They've done a few things I don't think they should have. (I feel like the parent!!) They started off really well, being careful. I think they feel fairly safe being in a smaller town, but I'm not in a small town if they come here.

Robin P wrote: "We are trying to figure out what to do at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I refuse to get together with more than one other person. I think we will go to our daughter in St. Louis. She is still having some cancer treatments but feeling very well...."

This makes me feel a bit better (I guess that I wouldn't be the only one visiting family with health issues!). Many of you know my mom has also been battling cancer, but like Robin's daughter, Mom says she feels good.

message 47: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8426 comments Like Robin, my neighborhood is good. People wear masks and keep their distance. We had a nice sunny day last week and Hubby and I made the quick decision to go to a favorite restaurant with a nice patio for one last "outdoor dining experience" before it gets too cold. We arrived ... and they had just (the day before) put up a tent with a heater. We still had our lunch there. Tables were spaced a generous distance apart, even inside the tent. But we're done for the season ... at least at that restaurant.

The Governor just issued a new rule that restaurants have to cut to 25% capacity. Of course the legislature will sue, claiming he doesn't have the authority to issue such an edict. And the state Supreme Court with agree with the legislature, as it is also majority Republican.

I really feel for the restaurant owners. Especially in Milwaukee, where they had submitted detailed plans for approval by the health department that would allow them to safely increase ther service incrementally ... and now all those plans are out the window. A couple of our favorite place have already closed - permanently. I fear we'll lose many more restaurants.

In the meantime ... got my flu shot.

message 48: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5767 comments I still don't feel comfortable eating at any restaurant, even outdoors, although I know many people are fine with it. I realize I never cared that much about the experience of eating in restaurants - except for being able to do it with other people. If I like the food, I'd just as soon take it out and eat at home. We did take advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend to meet a couple who live about an hour away. We each brought our own food and sat in their back yard.

Book Concierge, I made a new GR friend in another group who lives between us (Delafield). Looking forward to a Wisconsin meet up some day.

Sallys | 694 comments From what I've heard numbers are going up in New York. I returned to school for hybrid teaching last week but this week we've been told we're returning to remote so they can do Wifi upgrade. I feel it's a different reason but they dont want to alarm parents. I already had a kid come in with a fever. He was sent home immediately. I am having a really hard time with this. I see close friends but I miss my sisters terribly.

message 50: by Charlotte (last edited Oct 11, 2020 08:46AM) (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I feel very fortunate, our numbers aren't on the rise like they are in other places.

I've been to a restaurant once. When my mom and I took her parrot to the vet while we were waiting we went to a waiting nearby. We were just going to do to go but when we got there we found they were taking tons of precautions. They had closed down the bar, there was only 4 tables of 2 people each, one side of the restaurant was totally open thanks to big garage doors. You could only dine with members of your own household. All of the staff were wearing masks and gloves.

My husband went to another restaurant close to us a few weeks ago that I haven't felt comfortable with because I didn't think they were taking seriously. Turns out this past week they had to close because one of their staff tested positive.

I don't know what I'm going to when my husband's parents are in town.

We've figured out how to handle our IRL book club. My mom has a HUGE garage and we are going to make it cozy in there. There is plenty of room to socially distance and it's covered so we are protected from our wet fall and winter in the PNW. We are going to provide the garage each month and whoever is "hosting" will bring food.

All my interviews have been via phone or video and all have said that it is all work is remote for the time being.
