Jon (jonmoss) Doesn't the The Gathering Storm come out on the 26th or 27th of October?

message 3: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) Yep, just confirmed it via Brandon's blog: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog/...

message 4: by Dan (new)

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) I'll be reading the new Pratchett, as well as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sequel Eoin Colfer is doing. Other than that, I might pick up the Glen Cook reissue.

Hmmm. I get this list from a bookstore. Odd that they wouldn't include that one!

Jon (jonmoss) Besides The Gathering Storm, I'm very interested in the new Mithgar novel from Dennis L. McKiernan: City of Jade A Novel of Mithgar

Answering my own question:

I'll definitely read the new Pratchett. I may check out Canticle by Ken Scholes (I read the first book and thought it was okay, though not as good as the pre-release hype made it seem). And I already read the new Modesitt Jr., which was excellent - my review should be popping up soon on www.fantasyliterature.com - and on GoodReads, of course.

Jon (jonmoss) I'm reading Imager The First Book of the Imager Portfolio now but won't rush out to get the second book; especially with so many good club books to read next month. :)

It's a good one though! I thought the first book was good, but the second one was excellent. Book 3 is scheduled for November 2010 -- it will be a long wait :/

message 10: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathry) I will grab a copy of Aguirre's Doubleblind. I loved the first 2 books in the series. There are many others on this list that I am curious about and will read if strongly recommended.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I'd definitely like to read Unseen Academicals, but will probably wait for paperback.

I'm still undecided on the new (old) Hendee. I liked the Noble Dead Series at the start, but then it just dragged and dragged and the "conclusion" was less than desired. Sort of tarnished the whole thing, really.

Also not sure on the new Maguire. I loved Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, but thought that the others were just 'ok' mostly. Plus I've still not gotten around to either A Lion Among Men or What-the-Dickens The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy, so it'll have to wait, regardless.

Did want to add that the paperback version of Kin graphic novel by Holly Black is coming out on Oct. 1st, and I've been wanting that since I first heard about it, so I'm bound to get that sometime in October.

message 12: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 487 comments I've got Doubleblind on preorder and I'm just waiting for tomorrow so I can download it.

I'm also waiting for Soulless by Gail Carringer, which is not one the list, but is a Victorian steampunk, urban fantasy, paranormal kind of thing and has been getting some good reviews.

I might look out for The Devil's Eye An Alex Benedict Novel in the library if I'm in the mood.

Soulless sounds like it could be interesting. Let us/me know what you think of it when you're done? Thanks. :)

I'll try to remember. I have an absolutely terrible memory, so don't be afraid to ask me again if you don't hear from me.

message 15: by Christine (new)

Christine (chrisarrow) New Terry Pratchett, which I, like a geek, have already pre-ordered.

I'll get the new Mitgar as well. And will consider Zombie Racoons and Killer Bunnies, because it sounds cool.

Random (rand0m1s) | 1253 comments Squeeee! New Discworld. Didn't realize it was in the works. I'll be grabbing it.

Lots of things for me to check on but I probably won't buy right away--the new Pratchett, for sure. Let's see, I love Arthurian stories, so I'll look for Lackey's _Gwenhwyfar: The White Spirit_. I enjoyed the Mithgar books and may add _City of Jade_ to my list, ditto the Jack McDevitt book. Maybe the Eoin Colfer book. I've like the Sanderson books I've read so far (hoping to finish the Mistborn trilogy this week), so new books by him would be on my list, too.
Anyone know what the new Card book is about?

message 18: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) Stefan wrote: "Hmmm. I get this list from a bookstore. Odd that they wouldn't include that one!"

That's probably because The Gathering Storm was originally slated to be released on November 7th. It was just a couple of weeks ago that Tor announced they would release it early, on October 27.

Carolyn (seeford) Kathi wrote: "Anyone know what the new Card book is about?"

Actually, it isn't new, it was released in Oct 2007, this is just the paperback edition being released.
It's just a novella that was published as a HC (waste of $$). I didn't think much of the story, it's about when Ender has a battle of wills with the staff of the Battle School when he gives someone a gift for Sinterklaas Day - which is against school rules - and the giving becomes a spreading rebellion of the students v. the teachers. I'm a die-hard Ender fan, but I didn't think much of the story.

For my reading, I also love Arthurian stories, so I'll definitely be checking out the Lackey book Gwenhwyfar The White Spirit.

I'll also be picking up the new Aguirre book Doubleblind, as the series so far has been ok.

I'm also not sold on the new Maguire
Matchless A Christmas Story, because I've heard that it is a bit depressing - might wait until after Christmas to read that one.

I've already got Barb Hendee's Blood Memories on my tbr list, nice to see the sequel is already out (adding that now... = )

That's pretty much it for me off the list, except I'll probably check out the Jim C. Hines books, I've always liked fairy tale-retellings.

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I was planning on reading Lackey, Mercedes: Gwenhwyfar: The White Spirit (King Arthur, but I'll have to order it first....

message 21: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1437 comments The only one I am looking for in the latest Wheel of Time. Figured I have been reading this series since early 90's can't give up now. So will be looking for The Gathering Storm

message 22: by Kaia (new)

Kaia (slightlyquirked) I've read Aguirre's Doubleblind already (the bookstore operates a little differently over here; it stocks by release month, not by release day). My review for it is up. That's all I'll say.

I don't know about the rest of them. I'll have to see once I'm through with what I have lined up now. :)

message 24: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Just picked up Audrey Niffenegger's newest book, Her Fearful Symmetry, and am excited about it. I've had to take a hiatus from reading for a month or so, and can't wait to get back to it!
