ever since the readathon website was changed, I cannot get the emails anymore when it is updated. I've signed up more than once but I never get them. So I didn't even know all the other pre-readathon challenges were posted since I didn't see them pop up in here either. If I don't get it in my email, I don't see it. I don't usually take/have the time to go blog hopping to see updates since I work three jobs. Is there something you can do to fix that please!

I will look into it but don't know how to change that. They're still showing up in my personal email. I am planning on looking into making a newsletter that people can sign up for so people will know when reader / volunteer sign ups are up as well as the pre-readathon readathons.

If you don't mind too much, Kate, I will answer a bit of Kelley's question.

Kelley, when I have troubles withGoodreads, I have found it helpful to go to refresh GR, scroll to the bottom left of the homepage. At the bottom left of the page, just above the Connect line, you will find "Help". Just like much on GR, itmay be less than easiest, but I who am clumsy with technology figured it out. . . . Also there are librarian groups you can join. Be aware that there will be new arrivals of problems being discussed, so you may/not find the problems a bit overwhelming.

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I believe the question is about Dewey’s website, not Goodreads’?

I did get a notification though Kelley, so it can’t be the website’s doing, at least that’s what I think. The mails didn’t go to your spam box by accident?

I know that all of a sudden I couldn’t receive any mails from @gmail.com until I entered it as trusted. Maybe that’ll do the trick?
Deweys sends its emails from
[email protected]
I believe.

Thanks Cynda. But I think that Kelley was talking about on the blog for the 24 hour readathon, not just Goodreads. That is good to know for when having troubles with Goodreads, though.

Wow, that is super weird. I mean, gmail is a pretty popular email provider.

thanks for the info. however, what i am talking about is the dewey website, not th GR group. I cannot get the emails no matter what I do. And they aren't going to junk mail either. They just aren't coming to my email. At all. I've subscribed and unsubscribed and re-subscribed multiple times

Kelley - who is your email provider? (gmail or someone else)

i know on gmail it has a social folder that sometimes it routes my emails too - any chance it went there?

Bingo is just added fun, it's not required to participate in the readathon.

Kelley - can you message me your email address? I was looking on the homepage and there is a followers spot and I might be able to invite you to be a follower. That might help.

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Jesa Rachele wrote: "Do we have to use the bingo board?"

You don't have to use it. It's for fun and to give some added direction for choosing books if you're overwhelmed with choices for what to read. Or if you like an added challenge. No one is required to do anything they don't want to during the readathon :)

they are usually every 4th hour. Sometimes they do an hour 1 sprint as well. Typically though Hours 4,8,12,16,20,24.

what are the official hashtags for this readathon? I know the standard all the time ones but there were some October specific ones and I can't remember them or find them in here.

Yeah, these are the hours. Since the Bingo board requires two sprints, though, I am thinking every three hours. Any thoughts or preferences?

message 24: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Every 3 hours sounds awesome Kate! Maybe starting with one right at the beginning of the readathon?

I already set up my planner for every 4th hour and my GR posts are prepped on that schedule too. :-) So for all the folks who prep ahead of time, I recommend leaving it every 4th hour this time and switch it to every 3 hours maybe next time. Too many last minute changes will confuse people.

there were some others I saw too, for instagram. Something with the year in it, something with the month in it for sure, but I don't remember exactly what they were.

message 27: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Okay. I guess as a compromise we can do the official sprints every four hours but if you still need the two for bingo, you can do a sprint on your own. Just means that you will need to put away all distractions for an hour and sprint as fast as you can in your reading for an hour.

The only "official" tag is #readathon. People make up their own. I use all manner of them: #deweyoct, #deweyoct2020, #deweys24hourreadathon #deweysreadathon

I like the sprints every 4 hours - this time I have a goal to do them all (don't think I could manage every 3 hours)!

It's 8:00 a.m. EST, so 5:00 a.m. for you, unfortunately!

rein [[free palestine]] (narratedbyrein) when the readathon started, i was not awake and i have missed 4 hours. can i start now and then go thru a full 24 hours on my own? but still follow the bingo board?

I think that sounds like our Reverse Readathon Bingo board. Gabby has been putting them together for several years now so it sounds like you might have come across an older rendition.

Kate | 643 comments Thanks for another fantastic readathon.
I don't know about others but I always feel a bit flat the next day. As we have pre-readathon challenges as a warm up is there any scope for some kind of cool down challenge to help ease us off more gently?!

We've never done that before. Can you give an example of how that would work?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments I know in October and such they did hourly Instagram challenges. Are they doing that again this month, and if so, when is the schedule chart released? Sometimes it's easier to pre-take these pictures during the days before for prep --- and also, it's hard to take some of the themed pictures the hour you're reading if you're caught up in reading. I usually end up missing most of the hourly picture challenges for various reasons, usually time, and some of them take serious prep --- like making a book rainbow. This would take a lot of the reading hour to construct for some of us.

Unless the list has been posted somewhere and I've missed it? Don't see it on their instagram page yet, but double checking.

I think Gabby is working on this. She does more of the Instagram/Twitter end of things and I do the blog/Facebook and then we both do Goodreads. So she will have the answer for that. But I think she told me she is putting something together.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments Okay, thank you! :)

Yeah, Gabby was setting them up when Goodreads locked her out for posting too many new posts in a day. I want to majorly roll my eyes at this as a group moderator should be allowed to set up many threads in a day... but apparently not.
