Theme 279 - All life's here - Any song with variants of the word life, live, lives, living, lived, alive etc in the title - Sera69
Theme 280 - *Conditional - on folks finding enough suitable noms. Nominators may need to provide links for the whole concert with the time stamps for the nominated song*
"We're playing...where?!" Live performances in unusual venues/places. Some bands have performed at some odd places over the eons. So, pick a song (and YT vid link, if available), performed at strange places. It could be out at sea, on an active volcano, in the middle of a jungle or in a desert, in a war torn country, at an ancient site, like an Inca/Aztec city, an isolated monastery on top of mountain...and so on...you get the drift. The odder the better - theDuke
Theme 281 - "Boom Bang-a-Bang" - Onomatopoeias in song titles. - KJS
Theme 282 - Up or Down ... song title must contain the word 'up' and/or 'down' - SussexWelsh
Theme 283 - ‘Show us yer mettle’ .... any heavy, death, doom, rocketc metal song from any genre all and everything - Jemma
Theme 284 - Under The Hood - song titles with a named component of a car - Brass Neck
---------------------------------------------------------------------
*Cream of Rounds 2020 - Winter - 6 rounds - commences 20th Dec*

Hello and good evening on the first day of November. Halloween is over..what there was of it (I chose to watch Poltergeist last night), Bonfire night probably cancelled, and with that most of the UK in lock-down number 2...or is about to.....what a rosy autumn we've got coming!

But we shall soldier on, with Brass Neck's theme next. As the saying goes..you can't beat a lovely cup of Rosie Lee. How true, i think to myself...as i sup on fresh one. :)

But to make a proper brew you need all of these:

'More Tea, Vicar? - any song title with one of the requirements for a cup of Rosie Lee (cup, tea, leaf, bag, saucer, mug, milk, sugar, etc)'

So let's have a nice brew with your choices, and don't forget now..milk in last...cos i loathe people who put it in first..yuck!

Noms and links as you all know how to, thank you.

Chin Chin! :)

See ya Sunday, and good luck to all the English...as once again you lot batten down the hatches. I'm not sure what's going to happen here in Wales, as our lockdown ends on Sunday. On a positive note though...a possibility of a vaccine by Christmas....which if that should come true, it'll be the best Christmas present we could ever have wanted!

Enjoy the tunes, ttfn.

"And i never got the Scalectrix either" - that's a good reason to have kids. My son got the Action Men, though they were never as interesting because they came with a particular special inbuilt device and they didn't really make many uniform kits, etc which was what I was most jealous of when a kid, and the Scalectrix which, though not the most basic model, held the attention for about 30 minutes and it quickly became too much faff to assemble and pack away. We might still have it given my hoarding tendencies.

His best toys were Duplo (big Lego) which, despite never owning any toy guns (whilst I could arm every kid in our street!), he would fashion into guns and Brio/Early Learning Centre wooden train sets which you could adapt into all sorts of layouts as you added to the original set. Sold the Duplo to a friend which is still going strong (son is 27) and I think the Brio's still in a wardrobe but that stuff is a family heirloom, should the son decide to breed.

I had an Airfix(?) Bettabuilda(?) set with which I could construct all sorts of houses and buildings as Lego was "too expensive" whereas the fruit of my loins had loads of Lego but it was usually a special kit which fit together in a certain way with few generic pieces that you could let your imagination run riot on. He had a plastic Meccano set with an electric screwdriver - that was fun and endlessly adaptable.

Speaking of Lego...I've just received my youngest nephew's Christmas gift wish list today. I am still searching for my jaw and eyeballs, as they fell out and rolled away somewhere after looking at said list. Among this not insubstantial lengthily list, he wants a new PlayStation portable games console, which i understand his dad is getting for him..but wonders if i could purchase a particular gaming chair (What on earth is the point of those??!! A normal chair not good enough?!) costing a cool £239. *Screams* WTF?!!!

And if that's not enough...he's also very taken with the LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart set....which I've since discovered was discontinued nearly 3 years ago. I've had look about for new old stock, and the cheapest one i can find still sealed in it's box has a asking price of -*and i first need to take a breath of air* - £300!!!!! &@$£ MEEE! Why on earth would anyone want spend that much on poxy supermarket kit from a fooking cartoon???!!! How can it cost that much? It doesn't even look that amazing on the box.

I used to buy LEGO sets as kid in the 1980s with my pocket money..they were the cheap and cheerful back then......what's happened to Lego today??!!

All in all...my 'little' nephew of 11 years of age, has a Christmas wish list totted up to the tune of £1243!!!! And that's just from my side of his considerable wealth of relatives......he's got loads of uncles, aunts and another grandparent on top! I wonder what lists they've had?!

Sod it....I'm buying him a book..and he can be grateful for that...the cheeky blighter!

I don't have any children of my own...but if having the little darlings in one's life, is going to be THAT expensive to keep happy at this once a year pointless seasonal event......then i'm glad i ain't got none...and i ain't gunna have none. Feck that!

Anyway...apologies folks...i just needed to vent my spleen for a moment...but it appears i've derailed this thread. I should post this on the gripes thread..assuming we've got one somewhere in this group?!

I'm gunna brew fresh one.......

Brass Neck | 3979 comments "a particular gaming chair (What on earth is the point of those??!!" - son's ex-GF had one, it had built-in speakers on wings at head height and elsewhere and may even have vibrated like the hand controllers do when explosions and crashes happen in games. Also when you say what's wrong with a normal chair don't forget some of these gamers spend far many unbroken hours in them - they probably should have a built in commode and a small fridge for drinks and food for almost uninterrupted play.

Once they get to or close to teenage it's probably better to bung a tenner (other sums are available) in the card so they can get what they want; nowt worse than a gift that holds no interest and gets returned for a refund if they dare ask for the receipt or gathers dust or gets bunged on ebay?

Are you trying to tell me that a typical child's Christmas wish list weighing in to the tune of twelve hundred squids.....is normal in this day in age?! Strewth!

My dad....use to always encourage us kids to get out of the house and go explore the country.....the whole weekend! I used to go out on my bike with me mates and ride miles and miles away from the house....even on occasions take a tent and some basic rations with me, & kip in a field somewhere...and return home the next day without so much as a raised eyebrow from my parents. No third degree..no explanation as to where i've been...no punishment, just a quick debriefing of what i got up to & did I have a nice time!

Granted......i did (and still do) live in the erse end of absolutely nowhere..where sheep outnumber the local human population to the tune of 4 to 1....and hey...it were a different time then. I spose parents of today don't let their kids outside as much these days, perhaps due in some part of all the child perverts about now.

You know what...cancel the book...i'm getting my nephew a football! His mum runs a huge hotel in a rural seaside town in north Wales..he'll be fine...he's got plenty of outside space to play. And perhaps, it's about time kids got outside and got some exercise in. It might help to stave off the gradual decline in long vision..which i've read is becoming more of issue with the younger demographic...presumably from sitting in front of a screen playing these pointless computer games!

Speaking of Lego...I've just received my youngest nephew's Christmas gift wish list today. I am still searching for my jaw ..."

Oh cool..so there is one then, cheers Lez.

Right that's the last word from me on this subject..I've derailed this thread enough.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments "i'm getting my nephew a football! 'bout time they got outside and got some exercise" - with whom? At 11 they're already committed jocks or gamers. If he doesn't already love playing footie or crucially his mates don't the gift of a football will be as much use to him as a year's supply of tampons.

We lived in inner Sheffield but the 'rents took us camping in Derbyshire and Yorkshire every weekend from Easter to October. As soon as we were old enough to have our own tents we'd be off at one end of the field out of sight and earshot from the 'rents and up to all sorts. But times change, far too many parents have hyped up anxieties about paedos and child murderers lurking around every corner - they existed in our day too but we didn't have the same hysterical exposure to them in the media - and so kids aren't allowed the same degree of freedom to get themselves into and crucially out of scrapes and risky situations, each of which would contribute to our resilience and ability to size up relative dangers. I'm sure modern parents think they're doing the best by their kids but they've produced some pretty clueless and gullible millennials who assume that it's someone else's responsibility to pull them out of the sh** they've got themselves into through their own naivety, my son very definitely included.

I think he does have an actual bezzie mate in physical flesh form that lives nearby to him. Dunno if likes playing footy though.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments If he does like footie, 10 to 1 on it's FIFA for Playstation!

Money in the card is the way to go when they have Rolls-Royce tastes but Dacia rellies!

The weird thing is..for the last 6 or 7 years or so, he's been nuts about superheroes, specifically Spiderman.....of which he always wanted the latest Nintendo game that featured him...which seeing as they're more fiscally affordable..i got him those. So i guess by that token then...i've ruined him for his obsession with computer games! But he's not provided such a eye-wateringly expensive wish list as this latest one. He'll be 12 in January, i would've thought he'd know the value and cost of things by now......i did at that age. The most expensive i ever got was a Raleigh racing bike..which my dad was all too happy to get for us boys...if it meant he could have some of his weekends free of us!

Maybe i'll have chat with the lad and see if we can 'revise' this list down to something a little more manageable. He must think we're rich buggers.......I'm a Duke in name only! :)
