“ The dead are restless here..."
Remy is a tour guide for Carrow House, a notoriously haunted building. When she's asked to host seven guests for a week-long stay to research Carrow's phenomena, she hopes to finally experience some of the sightings that made the house famous.

At first, it's everything they hoped for. Then a storm moves in, cutting off their contact with the outside world, and things quickly become twisted. Doors open on their own. Seances go disastrously wrong. Red liquid seeps from behind the wallpaper. Their spirit medium wanders through the house during the night, seemingly in a trance.

Then one of the guests dies under strange circumstances, and Remy is forced to consider the possibility that the ghost of the house's original owner, a twisted serial killer, still walks the halls.

But by then it's too late to escape.

37% (view spoiler)[I really like April. She’s so brave in her delight about the house and it’s inhabitants, I imagine that’ll change if and when people start dying. On that note I’m wondering if the author is going to use this as some type of man made setup or will there really be ghosts, I hope so.! (hide spoiler)]

67% (view spoiler)[Seances are never a good idea. They don’t usually end well for parties involved. Think Marjorie may be a little off in saying the ghosts are harmless, I imagine things will only get worse. Also I love Remy. She’s such an unusual but awesome character, taking charge in the face of all this nonsense. When in reality she really is the only one who knows everything there is to know about the house, she’s an asset that’s for sure, (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[Yahhhh there really were ghosts. So happy we had some real supernatural elements and hell some awesome ghosts the way they shielded them all from the Fire. Pretty typical ghosts angry at their executioner but really they got their revenge and magically no one actually died so everyone but the baddie won. I’m kind of sad they had to destroy the house though. Then again it was too powerful to be left standing, Really enjoyed this. (hide spoiler)]

First quarter - (view spoiler)[I immediately loved this story. The house tour ensured the reader truly understood the setting, as well as its tragic past. Remy's proposition to spend a fortnight at Carrow House turned to disaster almost immediately, after the presence of snobbish Lucille and the red liquid she found seeping through the walls. I bet some people will probably think it's info dumpy, but as someone who tours haunted places whenever the opportunity allows me too, I could have read a whole book just in the style of the house tour. I agree that it might put some readers off but I loved how Coates introduced Remy and the house in this way. It helped its history to feel authentic. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[Poor April. The spiritualist dashed all her supernatural dreams and the two continued to butt heads since then. I was very sweet for Mark to arrange for April to be allowed into the séance. It would be very easy for April to be nothing but a spoiled and wealthy teen but I really like her eccentric character and can empathise with the vulnerabilities surrounding her loneliness.

I'm enjoying this, but the haunted instances that have so far occurred haven't been as terrifying as I was anticipating. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah any time I travel to a new place, I make a point to look up if there's any haunted houses or ghost tours to sign up for. They're super fun!

I just finished it. I'm sorry, I didn't look at the chapter when updating as I was reading on my kindle and just went by the percentage mark. Each update is for 25% of the book, if that helps?

We must be reading different versions then? Because the first quarter you posted covered to the 17% mark of mine. That's why I was confused. But it does give me a better idea

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[Whilst I didn't find this a terrifying read I did find it a continuously interesting one. It definitely did get more chilling once Remy was isolated and discovered the possessed Marjorie!

I loved the focus on the present deaths as well as the tragic past ones and learning about the mysteries surrounding both. I definitely shrieked out loud when Remy realised they were not dead at all and when they all teamed together to save their bodies. The ghosts protected the group by somehow soaking the flames into themselves, which added to this poignant conclusion. (hide spoiler)]
