What a coincidence that you are from NY.
Suriname (a former Dutch colony) is in South America, north of Brazil and in between Guyana and French-Guiana.
If you go back to a moment in history, when NY was occupied by the Dutch, it was traded for another territory occupied by England. That piece of land was Suriname. :)
