Amanda (tnbooklover) Agree on the one per week.

Linda | 1425 comments Sarah wrote: "I like one per week as well. It could get very confusing with a buddy read format with this many people."

Same here, especially if there happens to be a reader who falls behind, then the posts are out of order if there is just one thread for the entire book.

message 103: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Sarah, do you need help with threads? Actually, any member can set a thread; on the other hand, only moderators can add folders. Let me know if you need technical assistance with threads.

Uber excited!

message 104: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I can handle the threads. I've done then somewhere before. :) I'm excited too. It looks really different from what I've been reading lately.

message 105: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Ha! No kidding on the footnotes. I'm reading it now and there's definitely an unreliable narrator situation.

message 106: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Just for the fans of HoL, I want to read The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet and S.. Very non-linear and intriguing.

What was your nomination for the most challenging Chunkster...Remember, it didn't make the cut because it wasn't published early enough? I forgot the title, but it looked good too. I'm in for "S." :)

message 108: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) No, I nominated Dhalgren.

Ami Zulfiya wrote: "No, I nominated Dhalgren."

Well, whenever it was, I think you nominated 2666 at some point?

message 110: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (tnbooklover) I tried S at one point and didn't get very far. It definitely needs a group.

message 111: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1425 comments "S" looks good, but I'm definitely going to need a break from the non-linear after HoL and IJ.

I would be up for "2666".

message 112: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Linda, how dare you change your picture! I don't know who I'm talking anymore.

As for non-linear, I think we're going to be reading HoL for a long time. Our discussion thread is quite lengthy and we're on page 41.

message 113: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) There is a lot of 'back-and-forthing' in the initial chapters with lots of appendices and footnotes, but it go faster soon.

message 114: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1425 comments Ha ha! I know, I was reluctant to change my photo. I've had my Lil' Red hen photo since joining Goodreads! I actually changed the photo when someone in another group noticed that she was only one of two active members who had her actual photo and she felt in the minority. So I changed mine to cheer her up. :)

And anyway, didn't you used to have a Sims avatar before this one? Or was that a different Sarah? See, and that's the problem with having common names and then changing your photo.

message 115: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1425 comments As for HoL, I started to flip forward to follow a footnote per Ami's suggestion, and now I don't know where I'm supposed to be reading...

message 116: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I did have a Sims avatar. Then I changed it to Audrey and got heavily involved with postings. Now I feel kind of stuck. It actually is difficult to get used to when people change theirs. I miss Ami's apple too. Sigh.

Linda | 1425 comments Sarah wrote: "Now I feel kind of stuck. It actually is difficult to get used to when people change theirs. I miss Ami's apple too. Sigh."

Yeah, I get confused too when people change their photos. Well, maybe after awhile I'll change my photo back to Lil' Red. Or even another hen? Maybe I could rotate among my chickens, I haven't seen too many profile photos of chickens.

And yeah, Ami's apple. The thing that made her change easier is that her name is a distinct spelling, plus her new profile pic is still has a splash of green in it.

message 118: by Sarah (new)

Sarah The distinctive name does help. I haven't seen chickens either. That would be hilarious to see new chickens all the time.

Tanya Booklovinghippo (booklovinghippo) | 33 comments This is such a fantastic idea! I can't commit right now (no matter how hard I try I can't seem to finish a single chunkster :() I'm hoping that as soon as my life settles down a little I'll be able to join for a few reads!

Midnight's Children
I reserve the right to speed up, or slow down the schedule, if need be; acting in accordance with those (consistent contributors to the discussion) who express the desire to do so.

What are your thoughts on combining Weeks 6 & 7, It's roughly 127 pages...

Or Week 7 & 8, which is 136 pages...

Or, keep it as it is?

Your choice.

message 121: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I've fallen terribly behind so I have no opinion.

message 122: by Kaycie (new)

Kaycie | 294 comments Ami, I was debating skipping this week's reading to combine bigger chunks, so I'd be okay with just combining weeks.

Miss you in there, Sarah! Catch up if you can, if ever...Threads are up infinitely, right?

Noted.

message 125: by Sarah (new)

Sarah That's true Ami.

message 126: by John (last edited Jul 11, 2015 08:14AM) (new)

John (johnred) | 364 comments Hmm, I would definitely fall behind if we combined any weeks, I'm actually a tad behind right now. But if the rest of the group wants to that is OK with me.

message 127: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1425 comments I would be OK with combining the weeks in terms of the reading, but my concern is trying to discuss bigger sections each week. I already feel as if there is so much happening each week that I almost feel unable to discuss things thoroughly. This book sure packs a lot in, and I think only upon a reread would I really start to understand the themes and connections.

message 128: by Ami (new)

Ami Alright, I think it's best if we keep with the original discussion schedule...It's the most conducive to a balanced reading and discussion experience.

Janice (JG) | 152 comments Ami wrote: "Alright, I think it's best if we keep with the original discussion schedule...It's the most conducive to a balanced reading and discussion experience."

Oh good, thank you. I'm afraid I would fall behind too, if we started to double up. And there is so much happening...

message 130: by Kaycie (new)

Kaycie | 294 comments Hi all,
As per my participation in the readathon right now, I am trying and failing to keep up with posting, though I am reading midnights children. I am also struggling with the language of MC when I put it down at the end of the week and have a few days off before picking it up again. Because of that, I think I am going to just complete the reading and write in the threads if I have time.

Also, as per leading a discussion, I don't see the crazy schedule I currently have subsiding until Oct. I can lead city sister silver, but I cannot promise it won't be more that putting up a thread each week that includes my basic thoughts. I can't promise I'll have time for in depth analyses. If that's okay with the readers, I can do that. Just let me know what people prefer for our next read.
Sorry, all!
