message 1: by Teresa, Plan B is in Effect (new)

I send out an email to the group once a month, letting everyone know that the nomination threads are up and what books we are currently reading. Members can opt out of the emails in their Goodreads settings. I do plan to continue doing this but it might be time to change the format of it. Twice this year I’ve pasted in a wrong link. The first time I sent a correction email the next day. The second time was yesterday.

Those of you who check the group discussions multiple times a month don’t need this email. For those of you who depend on it to remind you to check the group:

1. When the wrong link gets posted do you want a correction email sent or is the follow up annoying?
2. Would it work if the email just gave a link to the folder where the nomination threads are found instead of direct links to the threads?
3. Do you need links to the books we are currently reading, or is the title and author enough?

I’m making more mistakes than I used to. Not sure if it’s getting older or the higher stress in Real Life lately. When it’s a mistake in a post I can edit it, but emails go out and can’t be edited.

The Joy of Erudition My preferences:

1. I'd like the correction, even if it requires a follow-up email.

2. I think direct links are generally better.

3. Links to the books are better than just a title and author. Sometimes the search function here isn't very helpful, even with an exact title.

My preferences, which are not strong (I would be happy either way):

I don't need the main monthly e-mail. I read it only to get the notification off my e-mail icon. But if you're going to send it, specific links are better than general ones. However, I don't think you need to remind us of the books we're currently reading. We already got notification of those, when they were chosen.

One idea I might go with next month is to include a link in the email to a thread that has the same information, but with links that work. If I make that post first and test all the links in it, then send the email by pasting a copy of that post, the email will have a better chance of being correct. And if something slips anyway it can be edited.

(I went for the rhyme.)

Wrong links are no biggie. I figured it out. You’d have to do it, like, three more times before we put you in a home.

+1

Getting the email is useful and helps with new or infrequent participants.

Yes, please do send a correction if needed.

The links are useful. For some reason that I have yet to figure out, sometimes I can't get to the group folders any other way.

The title and author are enough for me to find a book. But having a link is faster.
