Ones:Royalty and religious figures; Prince William James Schreave and his family are ones. The children of Ones are Ones, too. A position of power and respect and the very top of the caste system. They rule the country in a monarchy.
Twos:Celebrities; including athletes, singers, actors/actresses, models, politicians, police officers, firefighters, guards, and military members. A famous singer would be a Two (i.e. Taylor Swift). A guard that is formerly a Six is also a Two. After marrying him,a maid would become a Two. Twos live a life of luxury.
Threes: Great Minds; including inventors, teachers, philosophers, scientists, doctors, veterinarians, dentists, architects, librarians, engineers, therapists/psychologists, film directors, music producers, lawyers, and writers. Girls that are or were part of the Selection are also part of this caste, unless they are a natural Two or already a Three. An author or librarian would be a Three, along with a college professor.
Fours: Businessmen; including jewelers, real estate agents, insurance brokers, head chefs, construction managers, property/business owners, and farmers. Wealth between Fours greatly differs. A factory worker would be very, very poor, whereas owners of a popular hotel chain would be very rich.
Fives: Artists and Performers; including stage actors, classical musicians, singers, dancers, photographers and circus performers. They are typically very poor and looked down on. However, they do have a chance of buying their way up if they become successful.
Sixes: Workers; including secretaries, waiters/waitresses, housekeepers, seamstresses, store clerks, cooks, and drivers. They are only a step above Sevens. The servants at the palace are Sixes. Sixes are even poorer than Fives. Usually, the children of Sixes begin working at a young age. They get a very poor education. They are also usually the lowest caste put in the Selection.
Sevens: Manual Laborers; including gardeners, construction workers, farm hands, gutter/pool cleaners, and "trash collectors, ditch diggers, movers." Sevens are very similar to Sixes, but they have outdoor jobs instead. They would usually not be put in the Selection. They have very poor personal hygiene and an extremely low standard of living.
Eights: "Untouchables"; including mentally/physically unwell people, addicts, runaways, illegitimates, and the homeless. In a deleted scene from chapter eight of The Selection, it was written that Eights are "people who had been abandoned or orphaned with no way to prove their caste. And then people who fell into heavy drug use, the mentally and physically handicapped, they were all unemployable and left in the streets to beg." Traitors to the crown are also in this caste.
