Lucia | 40 comments I am looking for YA books that have really good plot twists that make sense.
One of my favorite books with a good plot twist is We Were Liars.

The Missing Ones by Patricia Gibney, it's a murder mystery with awesome plot twists(in my opinion) and it's actually part of a series, but you don't need to read the other books before it, that's what I did and I didn't even realize it was part of a series! XD

This one is a series, but the first book has a big plot twist:

May | 206 comments For Lucia ( with twists and turns ):
~ Red Queen
~ The One ( Trust me. You are going to read tis book and be like " it is so predictable". I did it to. Until the very end. You will just have to read it.
~ Ally Carter is a great author. I love all her work that I have read so far.
~Tigers Curse Series
~ The Disappearances

For Averil ( non-fiction stand alone ) :
I love these kind of books! They are amazing! So here are a few that first came to my head and that I really enjoyed.
~ Ashes in the Snow ( Also titled : Between Shades of Grey ) - This book is about a girl and her mother during WWII.
~ Sarah's key - Also during WWII but they are french - not German. So this is a little different then normally WWII books.
~ Book Thief -WWII in a little town that has no problem with jews
~ A Night Divided ( it is for younger readers but still really good) -After a war with a wall ??

I read Red Queen, wasn't my favorite. I thought it was just really cliche and I don't even remember it that much anymore and I read it not that long ago.

message 14: by Frank (new)

Frank Nix | 1 comments I wrote a thriller with some twists. It's a horror/mystery set in the world of high school football. It has a cast of high school kids, but it the lead is the coach, twenty years removed from high school and returning to find redemption, so it skews a little older. I was recently interviewed about it in Texas Coach magazine. You can read an excerpt and the interview here: https://www.franknix.com/blog/fqcb2m2...

Wow! I've heard so many good things about it, that I thought most people liked it. I know some people were taken aback by the big plot twist, but I thought it added depth and emotion to the story. I love her other two books as well.

Tori | 1 comments One of us Is Lying is an outstanding book. You could say “you saw it coming” but not entirely!!! It’s just a plot twist I was not ready to handle or even expect!!

message 19: by Lucia (last edited Dec 13, 2020 12:56PM) (new)

Lucia | 40 comments Guys, something that's been bugging me is that I'm realizing almost all modern/recently published ya thriller books have a plot twist that involves mental health. Like, I can't name one that doesn't. I feel like the trend is becoming predictable, I haven't read one thriller that doesn't have to do with them being their own worst enemy. Literally every thriller ever.
Even though I really love almost every book that has that twist, I'm getting a little tired of it.

message 20: by Stormraised (new)

Stormraised | 71 comments These have plot twist like in "One of us is lying", it just jumps out as a rabbit from a hat, you never could ahve predicted it:
Genesis
Shades of Earth

And these I recommend not because of powerful, stunning ending, but because of the pace of action during whole book, next plot twist is coming before you fully realize that the previous has happended:
Six of Crows
Falling Kingdoms
(I must warn, logic and probability not always keep up with all the twists...)

Autumn | 1 comments Killing November (and it's sequel Hunting November) by Adriana Mather. It's a mystery but also a thriller. I really liked it!

Who is the author of The One? There are several books with this title.

message 30: by May (new)

None Shall Sleep! It's a thriller down to it's name and it's so goodddd. Also maybe the Truly Devious series specifically for the plot twist, though it also has thriller vibes. Also How We Became Wicked if you want a Sci Fi twist to your plot twist.

So if I remember correctly 🤔😂 , The One is written by Kiera Cass. It is the last book in the selection series. To be honest, I never read that book, I just know how it ends and the plot twist. I know there is a sex scene or something like that, that is mostly the reason I have not read it yet. I was satisfied with the ending I was told. I have read the first two books and the next 2 series, about The main girl's daughter in the selection books and the book called The Betrothed. ( also by Keira Cass ) I loved the beginning of the selection series and I loved the books about her daughter, I thought is was so cute. But a little sudden, I don't want to spoil to much. The Betrothed is a series you can start, Which I think that is the one I meant to recommend ( oops ). This book is SUPER predictable. I has a little bored with it so predictable, but it was SO worth the ending! The ending changes the entire future series.

If you are referring to Tiger's Promise (The Tiger Saga, #0.5) by Colleen Houck , it is a prequel and totally unnecessary. Also, I would recommend that you not read book 5 Tiger's Dream (The Tiger Saga, #5) by Colleen Houck that came out a couple of years ago. Basically it retcons the whole series and not in a good way.

I read The One (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass , but I don't remember the cliffhanger or the sex scene, but it's been a long, long time since I read it.

message 35: by May (new)

May | 206 comments ~ It looks so good! I will defiantly be reading the 5th book!

~ Good to know, my friend told me that The One had a lot of dirt in it and was not worth the read.... I don't know what she read?? ... Thanks for you input!

message 36: by Lucia (new)

Lucia | 40 comments I read the Selection. It was good, but I don't like the last two books. I read the Betrothed, and I hated it. It was the Selection but repackaged in another way and the plot twist was pretty much the same. No surprise

message 37: by May (new)

May | 206 comments Yeah, I agree! I liked the first book of the selection and the Betrothed was bad. Even though the twist was super weird, I liked the end because it is not super used in writing.
