Rebecca, I've decided to get the Baroque Horse. It will probably take a whole month of reading but I really want one.

Its worth depends on the level of your weapons. If your magic staff is level 7 and your sword is level 4 then your baroque horse saves you 8+5 (13) books for leveling up your weapons while he cost you "only" 12 books. The higher your weapons' level the more advantage (saving of books) your horse brings you.

I have the same attitude as Zuzana, which is why I'm getting the baroque horse. I plan on leveling my staff and sword each to level 10 and the horse gains me an additional level for each. Since level 11 requires 11 books for both the staff and the sword, I'm saving 10 books by getting the horse instead. If you are more concerned about quests and not about defeating creatures, though, the horse doesn't make as much sense (obviously).

I think I'll slowly work on the horse because I definitely want to be killing more monsters.

do we know when this quest expires!

My question is how is it possible to kill a rat while riding your horse?

The horse stomps on it.

Maybe by this point they're so scared of you they just die of fright when they see you.

I haven't put a date on expiry of the horse quest though I plan to leave longer quests (and special ones) for longer than the 2 months that some of the shorter ones get.

My staff is long enough to bonk the rat like a polo mallet.

Attacking the rat from a horse with magic makes perfect sense, but attacking with the sword is where it gets a little odd. Your sword would have to be gigantic to reach a rat from your mount. After going through the quest to gain a horse you can bet I am not getting off of it, not even to sit at The Tavern bar. My horse is coming in with me when I want a drink.

The horse stepping on the rat is a great answer that gave me a hearty laugh.

Alex you could always take up trick riding. Lean over, line up a few rats and skewer them like a shish kabob.

Not quite finished. I need to read a 600 page book to complete my baroque horse. I had quite a few books stockpiled before the quest was launched. I'm hoping to complete it either this weekend or certainly by next week. I'm also aiming to up my staff another level.

I think that Traveller would be a fine name. Someone to accompany me on my many quests.

I'm not sure I'm going to manage a horse :-( I'm getting in two books a week at the moment but from April the skydiving season ramps up so my weekends will disappear to training.

I'm currently working on three quests at once - the goodreads choice one, the fairies and a toy for hadley. That'll take me the rest of the month at least and then I was going to level my staff some more. This challenge is so much more strategic when you're not a massively prolific reader and have to decide where the best book to exp ratio is!

Also, I currently have a hangover. No mead today, barkeep. I'll have an orange juice.

Let me start by saying thank you for this amazing challenge! I love it, and I know it must be a lot of work to maintain. I was wondering about the Academy. I have finished the first level, for +3 EXP when I finish the next level do I get +4 more EXP or just one more because I already claimed three?

Do we know when the caravan is arriving and how long it will be staying for? I've been planning books for a midas quest and now need to figure out how and when to fit them around my other quest books.

Thanks Tea, I knew it had been mentioned before but couldn't remember when. I think I need to move the midas books up my reading list if I'm going to have gold by the end of the month.

Do you get the guy on top of the horse too? :)

We're planning on having the caravan come once a month near the end of the month so you'll be able to use gold later if you don't get enough to buy what you want in this one.

Congrats! I'm three books into the challenge for my horse - only nine more to go, haha. Hoping to read at least four more this week, so I should be naming my trusty steed come next week!

Thanks. The goal for this week is to one-shot bats. Too many books. So little time. I also need to take the cures so I can level up to full health again.

I know! I'm torn between my staff, my horse, the gold and the plasma cannon!

So much to earn and so little time! I feel like the plasma cannon will be an amazing addition to my arsenal when I take down the Great Novel Dragon, though, so I'm determined to get it. I think that's going to be the big quest I conquer in late March/early April.

Just an idea that popped into my head as I was debating what quest to use a book for - what if there were a one-use item/potion that makes it so a book could be used twice? I know I would definitely do a quest with that as a reward! It might be a little too overpowered, though. Still - just thought I'd share!

I feel like it should be a troll just to get the internet slang in, but we already have so many trolls. Maybe it's moving in on Omnibus territory.... They could be two warring troll factions....

Tea and I have a vague plan for what happens after the death of the Great Novel Dragon so I'll have to see what fits in but I like the idea.

Question about the Run Alex Run Midas quest. Can the directional words be a part of a bigger word?

I'm thinking about reading The Children of Odin: The Book of Northern Myths but not sure if "Northern" counts for North or not.
