General guidance for finding words in the title is that unless it's specifically stated otherwise it's fine to use another variant of the same word. i.e. Northern for North is fine but Beast for East would not be since they're not indicating the same thing.

To start, could you please add books you've read so far from the beginning of the year? It would help.

I'd just pick a few quests to work on. Unless you read a ton of books you won't be able to finish them all so just pick ones that you enjoy :)

I've had a mental week and only read about five pages :-( With my hold on A Dance with Dragons coming in today and now the urge to read another Discworld book I think this month's reading plan has gone out of the window.

If I put some books towards a midas quest but then the quest expires, can I put the books elsewhere seeing as I won't have earned anything for them?

Zee, I had the same problem. In the end I've decided to leave all the Midas books in my infinite tote until the caravan comes/the goods and prizes are announced and then I'll either cash the books for gold or use them towards other tasks.

You can always take books out of a quest unless you've claimed something towards that quest.

e.g. If a quest gives you 1 xp per book then you claim that xp as you put the book in and that book cannot be reclaimed. If a quest requires 4 books of a certain length then gives you 5 xp, if you put in 3 books then want to take them out you can since you haven't claimed any reward from putting the books in. If a quest requires 2 books for the first prize level then 3 for the second and you've finished level 1 and put one book towards level 2, you can take out the book towards level 2 but not the ones you've claimed the prize on from level one.

I think I have taken my nerdiness to a new level, haha. Last name, I stayed up until midnight just so I could attack some monsters and level my character. =p

Let's face it. This challenge is fun. I think that it should be promoted more for more participants to enjoy. -- in the newsletter or invitations to other reading groups. You wouldn't lack for testimonials from us.

I agree! At first I was a little wary because it looked super complicated. But now I'm totally hooked! I have been neglecting my other challenges big time for this one.

Has anyone read the series? I read the first book, but I don't think I was in the right mood to read it because I didn't enjoy it that much, but I think the series may have potential. I was wondering if anyone had read it and could tell me if it's worth continuing the series.

It has a lot of the same things that other YA series have. It looks like I rated the first book a 4 and all the rest a 3. So if you didn't like the first one then it doesn't sound promising. It has all the same love triangle nonsense that most YA books have.

Aww. You guys make me blush. We do have a section in the newsletter for the RPG challenge.

There's also talk of a multiplayer team challenge. But we're still working out details on things. I have a few idea's of different team challenges so I'm not sure which one will win.

I read the first book and LOVED it. I read the second and...semi-liked it. The style the author choose was really strange and unnecessary but I liked it well enough. I'm actually starting the final book tonight. So we shall see.

Thanks Cait! Thinking back on the book, I can't remember why I didn't really like it, which is why i was considering continuing. I think I was left thinking "that was it?" so maybe it would be good to finish the story and see what happens.

Yeah, I know that feeling. Even though the style of the second one was really off-putting for me, the ending was like WHAT?!?! Like I literally had to go for a walk before I could come back and write a review for it lol So even if I hated the way she wrote it, there was no doubt I would read the last one.

The love triangle was really ugh for me as well. Especially since I really liked Alex and thought he was one of the better YA love interests I'd read recently (aka he wasn't a total jerkface who treated her like crap but somehow made her love him anyway).

Sometimes it just takes walking away from a series for a bit before you can keep going with it. I do that if I'm iffy on a series, give it a couple months and then try the next book. If I still don't like it then I don't feel guilty about moving on.

Yeah, I wish they'd have more YA books where two characters actually commit to each other. They can fight and whatnot but switching back and forth between two guys and stringing them along is annoying.

Yeah. I don't mind them on occasion (on a rare, rare occasion lol) but... It feels like the majority of authors do it just because it's the thing to do. 99% of the time it's totally not needed and just screams "I can't think of any better conflict for a young person to have than wanting to nail two different people!" As if teenagers are so incredibly simple-minded that they can't possible have any other things going on.

I agree with both of you!! It really bugs me in books where there is SO MUCH else going on (the world is in danger, diseases, or they're fighting for their lives somehow) and yet all they are thinking about is "hmm which boy should I choose"? It just doesn't ring true and most of the time it takes away from the interesting stuff.

I'm ready for a weekend of Adventuring. First up -- searching for Spock. I might even get up the courage to go on stage before the weekend is done.

I need to up my HP by two points so I can kill a goblin...

I am off to the local book festival this weekend. Lots of great authors are going to be there including Deborah Harkness, Gail Carringer, Catherine Coulter, Dave Barry, Scott Lynch just name to a few. There are like 400+ authors at this huge event and lots of interesting presentations/talks too. though with family following me around, probably won't attend any of those. I am excited!

I'd be wary of cookbooks. I think it would have to be one of the cookbooks where there's lots of descriptive text (like the textbook or science ones) and not just one with pure recipes. But if you have one that has lots of paragraph text and you read it entirely it's ok to count it.

Except next level is going to require a further 45 exp, which is double what I already have. Looks like I may need to start reading some healing books now and again as it'll be a while until I can get the benefit of a level-up heal.

I'm in the same boat, so I think I'll focus on getting some gold and leveling up my weapon for now.

I have yet to use any healing potions or hp cure points. Instead, I concentrated on leveling up my staff so that now I can one- hit rats, goblins and bats. Reading many low page books allows you to accumulate sacrifice books for lots of attacks and exp points even with a health of 1.

I have trouble finding low page count series books to do so. Especially 3 and 4th books for some reason...

Thank you Kelly :) I've read the first Discworld, I determined I need to be in a certain mood for that series!

I'm more into m/m these days, but have been planning on branching out so I may have to give some of the others a try. :)
