I like romance and mysteries and there are plenty of large series (over 10 books) with books under 200 pages. You'll find that books written before 2005 are shorter than books written today.

Bundled books are a good source of series.

Here are a few series to try--

Alex | 1018 comments I still don't think it's worth my while changing my entire reading plan to start reading shorter sacrifice books when there are so many quests I haven't done which give a better ratio than 1 exp per book. For me this challenge is about reading books that I want to read and trying to figure out where best to fit them in, rather than reading loads of short books purely to level up faster. YMMV. :-)

message 1205: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 876 comments I know. I have soooooo many books that I want to read. Adding more to my TBR list just because they're short doesn't make sense for me.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments The beauty of this quest is that everyone can chose what works for themselves. We all have different goals and can travel any path to get there. The main thing is to enjoy yourself.

message 1207: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) Here's another idea (though I'm sure Kelly and Tea have already thought of it) - writing a review/reviews could be a new type of challenge that would change things up a little bit. I would like to write more reviews, especially for indie books, but sometimes need a kick in the pants to do it. =P

What does everyone else think?

I was thinking of doing another participation type quest once the current academy quest expires. So probably starting in July.

Kelly, Tea? I sent something to the Mod Acc when can I expect an answer? Or was senting something there for the Archive Quest the wrong move?

^^

I write reviews for everything I read so I'd love some free xp, yeah lol :D

Sorry, it's been a busy month and I've been playing catchup. It was the right thing to do and you can use quests as the challenge write up requirement for The Academy quest. You can claim credit for it now. We'll format it and cycle it in at some point based on quest balancing and whatnot. :)

Gesa (mistchild) | 147 comments No problem at all :D I'm just totally courious when it comes to such things and can't wait to get an answer ^^

Oh and one question to the following:
Start a Spell-It-Out challenge in Reading Challenges and finish at least one word.
Does it count when I'm finishing one House Motto of the Game of Thrones Challenge? ^^"

If that ones about 4+ books for finishing then that's fine. The intent was to do at least a chunk of a non seasonal/monthly quest.

message 1214: by Gesa (new)

Gesa (mistchild) | 147 comments Yeah It definitly has!

Thank you *runs of to adjust her challenge - at least offline*

message 1215: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) I have a stack of books waiting to be doled out for April quests and a pocket full of gold to spend at the caravan, haha - can't wait to see what Kelly comes up with for us!

Quick question, actually - how long will the caravan be open? Will it just be a day-long thing or will we have most of the week to do our shopping?

message 1216: by Alex (new)

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments It would be more interesting to have to find the caravan inside a different group thread every week.

The caravan will be a week long. I'm planning on March 24th-31st so it should be close to that at least. I'm also planning on cycling through items in the caravan again in case you miss them the first time.

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Alex wrote: "It would be more interesting to have to find the caravan inside a different group thread every week."

I'm not sure I can handle having a caravan out all the time :P. We'll see what everyone thinks after the first one rolls through.

message 1219: by Alex (new)

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 2 comments Oh I meant as the caravan appears, whatever the timeframe.

message 1220: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Ahhh. Hrmmm... I'll ponder it.

I was thinking of adding a scavenger hunt at some point as part of a participation quest :)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) Oh, a scavenger hunt - that sounds so fun! Way to be creative, Kelly. =)

message 1225: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I need to work on my quests today. I'm going to miss out on the caravan if I don't have any gold to spend. :)

message 1226: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments Me too Amanda! I still have three books to read to complete a Midas quest, and I don't want to be penniless when that caravan arrives.

message 1227: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I'm done one Midas quest, and need one book to finish another... then I got to get working on my horse!!!

message 1229: by Cait S (new)

Cait S | 2825 comments I have 2 books left on my first Midas quest but now I'm stressing out about how much things are going to cost. Like is 10 gold going to even get me anything? Am I going to have to try and cram 4 more books in to be able to use the caravan?

So much uncertainty :P

message 1230: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Cait wrote: "Like is 10 gold going to even get me anything?"

Well.... depends what you plan to buy...

message 1231: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments 20 gold will have to be enough. I am 8 exp from levelling up to level 6 and can do it with one more book read. But I balance this challenge with three team challenges, a weekly called bi annual challenge and reviewing books for a blog. I get a lot of books in my extra book log.

Cait S | 2825 comments ❀Tea❀ wrote:

I'm not super set on buying huge things right away. I'm just wanting to participate lol Like I would be all dejected if I had to slink home with my measly 10 gold because I was too poor.

Although I may end up saving it all anyway so I suppose it doesn't really matter :)

message 1233: by Reva (new)

Lol. I'm not opposed to marking things down if they show up in future caravans. No guarantees though.

I'll ponder the discount tokens.

You'll be able to buy at least something with 10 gold :P Though it's up to you if you want to save for larger items in the next caravan.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Welcome Lady D! It's a lot of fun. Happy you joined up.

I have a feeling lots of adventures are going to be leveling up once the 22nd hits. For some reason my mind plays the little victory theme for when the muncher in Number Munchers levels up. :D

I can't wait to kill a goblin in one strike!

Thanks for the offer. I think I'm ok so far. I did actually read all the posts here in the tavern and that helped a lot.

Bartender! A Green beer for our new adventurer Diane.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

message 1248: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments Thank you kindly.

When you assign all your books for the year so far at once, you get to put some thought into it and can get some decent weapon levels.

message 1249: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) I have a question about potions. If I were to use two potions, would they stack? For example, could I use an enhanced weapon potion and a damage potion to add +6 to my weapon? Or two of the same potion to add to my weapon's damage? I'm just curious because if you had, say, five damage potions, you could raise your weapon attack by +15! =P

Hmmm. Valid and interesting point. I think I'm going to rule that you can only have one of each type of potion active at any given time.

That seems to be similar to how a real RPG game would act since usually the strongest one wins and only one counts. I suppose if you use another it could refresh the time but not stack though I'm not sure why you'd do that.
