As much fun as the themes have been in 2020, we are going to change things up again for 2021. This year every month will be assigned a genre and the books nominated will have to fit that genre but they do not have to be only that genre. For example a book like Throne of Glass fits both fantasy and romance genres. Middle grade, young adult, new adult and adult are all accepted for nominations.

If there is a genre in particular you would like to read, here's the place to tell us!

Just some genre ideas:
- Contemporary / Romance
- Thrillers
- Paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy
- Sci-fi
- Historical

We can always repeat a genre if it's one that a lot of people read often?

Not strictly a genre but how about your idea for a new start in January? So we can nominate start of a series or something like that?

Sounds good! Let's still use that then

I went with Mystery for May as that is mystery month and Romance awareness month is August.

message 7: by Gord (new)

Gord | 1000 comments I feel that October has to be horror by default. Or at least that horror has to be in there somewhere.

message 8: by Jo (new)

Jo Elliott | 1838 comments I definitely agree with Gord, October should be something spooky, maybe do Paranormal/Horror? Just so we can maybe pick from a wider range of books if some of us aren't straight up horror readers?

What are peoples thoughts on a series continuation month? Use books that have won BotM before and pick their sequels?

Also I have filled all but one but am completely open to changes or suggestions!

message 13: by Gord (new)

Gord | 1000 comments The one's that are filled in look good to me and the idea of a series continuation month sounds like a great idea.

message 14: by Jo (last edited Nov 24, 2020 05:52AM) (new)

Jo Elliott | 1838 comments Horror/Thriller is a good shout, gives more scope if people aren't massive horror fans. I like the idea of a series continuation month too, I'm sure a lot of us have unfinished series to read! Everything you've got so far looks great.

Perfect! Thanks guys! I'll leave it as is for now and if anybody comes up with something they would rather see we can talk about changing it

Elena Granger | 1788 comments I want to add Magical Realism somewhere too (maybe summer months?).

Can you recommend me some Magic Realism books? I'm not sure I've read much of this genre :)

message 18: by Elena (new)

Elena Granger | 1788 comments @Kay basically almost all Murakami's are amazing. Also several Neil Gaiman's books are good (The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Neverwhere are my fav).
Some more books I enjoyed: Gods of Jade and Shadow, The Master and Margarita (this one is a bit crazy but in an interesting way), Chocolat (extremely cozy!).

I do enjoy magicial realism although I don't read a ton of them. What would you want to take out for it Elena?

Sorry for the late reply :) Just got some time to read the goodreads. Maybe series continuation?
