Calvin (calvinium) OK so here is what I am thinking so far, though I have several books waiting on the TBR pile which could fit these, so I may visit weeks more than once...

THE 2021 LIST
1. A book related to “In the Beginning...” Taking this to be "the start of a series", I actually have several options here.
A is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone, #1) by Sue Grafton Blindsighted (Grant County, #1) by Karin Slaughter Triptych (Will Trent, #1) by Karin Slaughter The Axeman's Jazz by Ray Celestin Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1) by Kate Atkinson The Field Of Blood (Paddy Meehan, #1) by Denise Mina
2. A book by an author whose name doesn't contain the letters A, T or Y. Again, I have more than one option here, so this could be a week I visit more than once throughout 2021.
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio A Widow for One Year by John Irving Macbeth (Hogarth Shakespeare) by Jo Nesbø The Search Party You won’t believe the twist in this compulsive new Top Ten ebook bestseller from the ‘Stephen King-like’ Simon Lelic by Simon Lelic Rupture by Simon Lelic The Sleepwalker by Joseph Knox The Smiling Man (Aidan Waits #2) by Joseph Knox Cemetery Road by Greg Iles
3. A book related to the lyrics for the song "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. This is my first "only one choice" category
All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld
4. A book with a monochromatic cover. So for this, I originally picked out How To Stop Time, but my physical copy of that is very much not a monochrome cover. So my options are:
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker The Red Word by Sarah Henstra Wat rood was by Rosie Price
I actually have an ARC of that last one, which is entirely red, no picture. That's the closest match I could find.

Calvin (calvinium) 5. A book by an author on USA Today's list of 100 Black Novelists You Should Read. I have several options for this sitting on my Kindle, but all of them except one have been slotted into other prompts! So for this one it will be
Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
6. A love story. I am REALLY not big on love stories, it's probably my least favourite genre. However, if I'm going to read a love story, it sure ain't gonna be a heterosexual one and so lurking on my Kindle for this is
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, #1) by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
7. A book that fits a prompt suggestion that didn't make the final list Looking at all those prompts and trying to see what I had on my TBR pile which could fit them broke my mind a little so I took an easy option of "A book with a pronoun in the title" and went with
Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson
8. A book set in a state, province, or country you have never visited. Another one with a few options so likely to be a prompt I visit more than once
The Lost Man by Jane Harper Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens What's Left of Me Is Yours by Stephanie Scott

message 3: by Calvin (last edited Jan 16, 2021 03:34PM) (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 9. A book you associate with a specific season or time of year. I have a few options here too, it turns out!
Hercule Poirot's Christmas (Hercule Poirot, #20) by Agatha Christie Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls June by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore
10. A book with a female villain or criminal. Another multiple choice prompt where I'll probably read all my eligible books I already own and haven't read.
The Corset by Laura Purcell My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing
11. A book to celebrate The Grand Egyptian Museum. Only one choice here and it's this classic
Death on the Nile (Hercule Poirot, #17) by Agatha Christie
12. A book eligible for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation. So I really struggle with translated literature. I find it somehow always reads really flat. Whenever I put it aside and read a book everyone is raving about, I always end up disappointed (Lullaby is the latest in that regard). However, perusing some best of 2020 lists, one book kept cropping up enough to pique my interest so for this prompt it's
Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor
13. A book written by an author of one of your best reads of 2020.
I've read a LOT of books in 2020, most of my best reads are from debut authors who don't have another book announced though. However, I've read some corking books by non-debut authors and I happen to have other books of theirs sitting around waiting to be read.
A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne The Killing Habit (Tom Thorne #15) by Mark Billingham Cry Baby by Mark Billingham

message 4: by Calvin (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 14. A book set in a made-up place. For this one, my TBR pile offers up
The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti The Body in the Library (Miss Marple, #3) by Agatha Christie The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer
15. A book that features siblings as the main characters. I have a few options for this, but all bar one ended up being sucked into other prompts, leaving me with
A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline
16. A book with a building in the title. A few options here, sitting on both my Kindle and my physical book shelf
The House of Impossible Beauties by Joseph Cassara The Library of Lost and Found by Phaedra Patrick The Silent House (Paige Northwood, #1) by Nell Pattison The Impossible Fortress by Jason Rekulak Like a House on Fire by Caroline Hulse
17. A book with a Muslim character or author. Vaguely ashamed to say that my options here were limited to just one, and that was with the author option.
American War by Omar El Akkad

message 5: by Calvin (last edited Jan 11, 2021 03:59PM) (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 18. 3 books related to "Past, Present, Future" - Book 1 Past -
The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock The Way of All Flesh (Raven, Fisher, and Simpson, #1) by Ambrose Parry
19. 3 books related to "Past, Present, Future" - Book 2 Present.-
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
20. 3 books related to "Past, Present, Future" - Book 3 Future -
After the End by Clare Mackintosh
21. A book whose title and author both contain the letter "u". Some options here are
Truly Devious (Truly Devious, #1) by Maureen Johnson Everywhere You Don't Belong by Gabriel Bump Kisscut (Grant County, #2) by Karin Slaughter In Our Mad and Furious City by Guy Gunaratne Fractured (Will Trent, #2) by Karin Slaughter Tony Hogan Bought Me an Ice Cream Float Before He Stole My Ma by Kerry Hudson Social Creature by Tara Isabella Burton Unseen (Will Trent, #7) by Karin Slaughter
22. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads. A couple of options here, as one book I earmarked for a different prompt was bumped and it could fit here instead
The Sentence is Death (Hawthorne, #2) by Anthony Horowitz The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

message 6: by Calvin (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 23. A cross genre novel
Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes A Necessary Evil (Sam Wyndham, #2) by Abir Mukherjee Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
24. A book about racism or race relations. Again, a few sitting in my TBR piles but only one didn't get sucked into other prompts.
The New Jim Crow Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander
25. A book set on an island. I mean, the UK is technically an island, so I could read any one of the MANY books I own and haven't read set in the UK. But that would be silly. Using the Listopia as an inspiration, it narrowed it to one choice. Handy.
The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh
26. A short book (<210 pages) by a new-to-you author. A few options sitting on the Kindle for this one
Sisters by Lily Tuck Disbanded Kingdom by Polis Loizou-Denyer You Were Never Really Here (Film Tie-in) by Jonathan Ames

message 7: by Calvin (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 27. A book with a character who can be found in a deck of cards. A slightly tricky one, though I'm sure I have many books with characters called Jack in them. However, I've opted for
The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett
28. A book connected to ice. Only one option here, thank the lord for Sharon Bolton.
The Split by Sharon J. Bolton
29. A book that you consider comfort reading. Reading IS a comfort, so I could put literally anything here. But I went with something that will undoubtedly be easy and charming and fun.
Slippery Creatures (The Will Darling Adventures #1) by K.J. Charles
30. A long book. Again, I have more than one option here, but I likely won't revisit this prompt more than once because who has the time?
4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster Wanderers by Chuck Wendig Lamentation (Matthew Shardlake, #6) by C.J. Sansom Revelation (Matthew Shardlake, #4) by C.J. Sansom Heartstone (Matthew Shardlake, #5) by C.J. Sansom Tombland (Matthew Shardlake, #7) by C.J. Sansom The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna by Juliet Grames No One Home (David Raker #10) by Tim Weaver

Calvin (calvinium) 31. A book by an author whose career spanned more than 21 years. I have such a backlog of books to read, it's kind of hilarious and so already purchased in one form or another and waiting to be read I have:
Clock Dance by Anne Tyler Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta Bel Canto by Ann Patchett The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett Taft by Ann Patchett Run by Ann Patchett Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell A Darker Domain by Val McDermid Out of Bounds (Inspector Karen Pirie, #4) by Val McDermid Broken Ground (Inspector Karen Pirie, #5) by Val McDermid The Skeleton Road (Inspector Karen Pirie #3) by Val McDermid Beneath the Bleeding (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #5) by Val McDermid Cross and Burn (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan #8) by Val McDermid How the Dead Speak (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #11) by Val McDermid Blueeyedboy by Joanne Harris Facing the Tank by Patrick Gale After the Funeral (Hercule Poirot, #31) by Agatha Christie The Hollow (Hercule Poirot, #26) by Agatha Christie Sparkling Cyanide (Colonel Race, #4) by Agatha Christie A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier Moonglow by Michael Chabon Ripley Under Ground (Ripley, #2) by Patricia Highsmith Ripley's Game (Ripley, #3) by Patricia Highsmith The Boy Who Followed Ripley (Ripley, #4) by Patricia Highsmith Ripley Under Water A Virago Modern Classic (Ripley Series Book 5) by Patricia Highsmith
32. A book whose cover shows more than 2 people. Nowhere NEAR as many options for this one, but more than option all the same. There were others, but they ended up in other prompts or in my Winter Challenge.
An Abundance of Katherines by John Green Again Again by E. Lockhart
33. A collection of short stories, essays, or poetry. I am not at the biggest fan of either short stories or poetry, so this prompt nearly went empty-handed. But luckily I love David Sedaris and have a copy of this sitting on the Kindle.
Calypso by David Sedaris
34. A book with a travel theme. A couple of options here which managed to resist the lure of other prompts.
Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli He Started It by Samantha Downing
35. A book set in a country on or below the Tropic of Cancer. A couple of options here, one of which HAS been sucked into another prompt now, but hey ho.
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett Little Black Lies by Sharon J. Bolton

message 9: by Calvin (last edited Dec 17, 2020 03:09AM) (new)

Calvin (calvinium) 36. A book with six or more words in the title. Again, more options here than I thought, and this is only the books which didn't get pulled into other prompts.
The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré The Rise & Fall of Great Powers by Tom Rachman The Lost Letters of William Woolf by Helen Cullen
37. A book from the Are You Well Read in World Literature list. As mentioned above, translated literature and I are not friends, so my options here in my TBR world are slim.
Embers by Sándor Márai Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
38. A book related to a word given by a random word generator. My word was "revenge" so even though it's shown up in other prompts, this is my only pick for here.
Vengeful (Villains, #2) by V.E. Schwab
39. A book involving an immigrant. Three options here, one on the Kindle, two physical.
The Idiot by Elif Batuman America for Beginners by Leah Franqui Invitation to a Bonfire by Adrienne Celt

message 10: by Calvin (last edited Jan 17, 2021 09:19AM) (new)

41. A book by a new-to-you BIPOC author. I had many options on this one, but by the time the other prompts had come along I was left with just one option.
Deacon King Kong by James McBride
42. A mystery or thriller. Mysteries and thrillers are my go-to, so this could get LONG. MANY of my TBR pile have ended up in other prompts though, so hopefully not TOO long.
The Whisper Man by Alex North The Vanishing Stair (Truly Devious, #2) by Maureen Johnson The Hand on the Wall (Truly Devious, #3) by Maureen Johnson Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent Rules for Perfect Murders (Malcolm Kershaw, #1) by Peter Swanson The Creak on the Stairs by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir The Man on the Street (Jimmy Mullen #1) by Trevor Wood Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier The Push by Claire McGowan The House Guest by Mark Edwards Stone Cold Trouble by Amer Anwar The Taking of Annie Thorne by C.J. Bolton The Facts of Life and Death by Belinda Bauer Ghoster by Jason Arnopp Final Cut by S.J. Watson The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton Long Bright River by Liz Moore When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole
43. A book with elements of magic. Mercifully after the RIDICULOUS amount above, I only have one option for this prompt.
Bunny by Mona Awad

Lizzy | 908 comments I loved the Trouble with Sheep and Goats last year. Hope you do too.

Thanks I hope so too! I wasn't actually that fussed about it until I read and REALLY loved Three Things About Elsie at the start of the year.

Calvin (calvinium) 44. A book whose title contains a negative. For this, again, I have options.
Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl I'll Never Tell by Catherine McKenzie Nothing Can Hurt You by Nicola Maye Goldberg No Good Brother by Tyler Keevil Never Anyone But You by Rupert Thomson An Unsuitable Woman by Kat Gordon
45. A book related to a codeword from the NATO Phonetic Alphabet. Only one option here
November Road by Lou Berney
46. A winner or nominee from the 2020 Goodreads Choice Awards. A whopping 18 of the Listopia are on my to read list. Of those 18 that I already own though, only one remains which hasn't been snaffled by other prompts.
The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James
47. A non-fiction book other than biography, autobiography or memoir. I am not a big non-fiction person (if you hadn't already guessed). However, I do have an option here, since I discovered Mary Roach and I love her.
Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
48. A book that might cause someone to react “You read what?!?”. Well, the book above would fit nicely here too, however I think this also fits the bill beautifully.
Devolution A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre by Max Brooks

Calvin (calvinium) 49. A book with an ensemble cast. I do love me a big sprawling multi-character book. Of all my pre-owned options, all bar two have been shoved into other prompts.
The City We Became (Great Cities, #1) by N.K. Jemisin London Falling (Shadow Police, #1) by Paul Cornell
50. A book published in 2021. Now, my main focus needs to be on reducing my tsonduku, not adding to it. But if anyone thinks I'm going to make it through 2021 without buying another book, then do I ever have some magic beans to sell you. Sitting on my to read shelf, there is
Concrete Rose (The Hate U Give, #0) by Angie Thomas The Survivors by Jane Harper Every Vow You Break by Peter Swanson The Box in the Woods (Truly Devious, #4) by Maureen Johnson The Turnout by Megan Abbott Later by Stephen King The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor Exit by Belinda Bauer Better Luck Next Time by Julia Claiborne Johnson Bath Haus by P.J. Vernon The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris The Boyband Murder Mystery by Ava Eldred Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller One Two Three by Laurie Frankel The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
51. A book whose title refers to person(s) without giving their name. Just a couple of options here which, as is now par for the course, haven't been swept up by other prompts.
The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker The Child Finder (Naomi Cottle, #1) by Rene Denfeld The Adults by Caroline Hulse
52. A book related to "the end". If ever a prompt should only have one book, it's this one! And I have the ideal book for it.
The End of Everything by Megan Abbott

Calvin (calvinium) Alright so I have weeks with multiple options and weeks with only one option. So I think my best approach is to actually follow this week to week, but dip in and out of multiple book choice weeks when one book from the correct week is complete.
