It’s a momentous occasion in the Kingdom: Prince Rowan—Queen Skye’s only son and noted introvert—is turning eighteen. A celebration of royal proportions is underway, complete with feasts, fireworks, and far too many speeches. The only person less excited than the Prince is the royal historian, who’s just discovered that no proper record of royal coming-of-age ceremonies exists. None. Not even a doodle.
Queen Skye, determined that her son's birthday go down in history, tasks you with researching legendary rites of passage and birthday traditions. The Prince, meanwhile, just wants to disappear into the library. Conveniently, so do you.
To ensure the Prince’s birthday is properly celebrated—and documented:
1. Read 5 books with a primary genre of “Coming of Age” (first 7 genres listed on GR) and/or are on the first page of this GR list: Best Coming of Age Stories
1 Slanting Towards the Sea 6/17/25
2 My Friends 5/12/25
3 Tough Luck 4/22/25
4 Life Hacks for a Little Alien - duplicated 8/13/25
5 Tough Luck duplicated 8/13/25
2. Read a book in which a character celebrates their birthday.
Teddy - 8/12/25
3. Since the Prince is a devoted bookworm, read a book that features a book or books on the cover—as the perfect gift.

Success! The celebration proceeds with only minor firework-related incidents. The Prince smiles (an actual, visible smile) upon receiving your bookish gift. Turns out, literature really is the way to his heart. For organizing a historic and heartfelt event, you earn 10 XP and 3 Roses.

Wild horses have recently discovered the village's vegetables and developed quite a taste for them, leaving the farmers in a state of frantic vegetable defense. To stop these hungry critters, you’ll need to outsmart them with a bit of reading:
1. To catch one: Read a book with a horse on the cover. It's a simple start—nothing too extravagant.

2. To catch two: Read the second book in a series where someone, presumably a character with a fondness for saddles, is seen riding a horse.
Love Is a War Song 7/22/25
3. To catch three: Read a book that mentions the word “unicorn”—which, for some reason, these particular horses seem to be very keen on.
Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe 6/27/25
Once you’re done, the grateful farmers, though still slightly bewildered by the events, will reward you with 3 XP and 5 carrots. Let’s hope these carrots are better behaved than the horses!
Note: This quest was inspired by the brilliant suggestion of Lady Saar. Many thanks for the wonderful idea!

Pre-requisite: You must complete Alchemy That! quest before attempting Part II (if you haven't already).
The Alchemist is asking for fresh ingredients as he brews the potion.
!!!Only fresh books can be used for this quest, i.e. read after 6/1/25!!!
1. The Essence of Past Battles
“First, we’ll need the essence of a worthy adversary. Read a book featuring a duel, battle, or fight scene—it must really make you feel the adrenaline rising.”
(“Perfect! The potion's starting to look dangerous now.”)
Fifty-Fifty 6/4/25
2. Ghostly Whispers
“Next, I need something spooky—a whisper from beyond the grave, if you will. Read a book with a ghost, spirit, or other spectral being in it. And no, that romance novel with the ‘hauntingly handsome hero’ doesn’t count.”
(“Ah, now it’s bubbling! A good sign!”)
Cosmic Love at the Multiverse Hair Salon 6/1/25
3. Shadowed Memories
“This step requires an emotional touch. We need the memory of loss. Read a book where a character mourns, grieves, or faces some kind of profound personal loss. The potion feeds on sadness, you see. For, uh, scientific reasons.”
(“Excellent work! The potion’s gone black. That’s totally normal, right?”)
The 7-10 Split 6/5/25
4. The Spark of Life
“Now, we need something bright—a spark to reanimate the spirit. Find and read a book with lightning, storms, or electricity in its pages. Kudos if someone yells ‘It’s alive!’ but that’s optional.”
(“Aha! It’s glowing now! …Wait, is it supposed to move?”)
A Purrfect Date 6/8/25
5. An Unwilling Sacrifice
“Lastly, we need… oh, you’re going to love this one! We need a book that’s been neglected. You know, the one collecting dust on your physical or virtual bookshelf for the minimum of 3 years. Sacrifice it to the cause by actually reading it.”
(“Brilliant! The potion is complete! And it only singed my eyebrows a little.”)
Concealed in Death 8/27/2025
You hand over the final ingredient, and the Alchemist triumphantly raises the potion into the air. It glows ominously, and you feel an unsettling chill in the room.
“Behold! The Re-animation Potion is ready! Soon, every rare monster in the Novel Kingdom will have a ghostly counterpart—and I’ll be rich! Uh, I mean… science will thrive!”
He sends you off with a sample to present to Jack’s Store, where the potion is immediately stocked for purchase (at a very steep price). As thanks for your efforts, Jack tosses you a free sample.
Reward: 1 Re-animation Potion. Moreover, the Potion is now "unlocked" for purchase - it means you can buy it at Jack's Store if you can afford it. Mind that as a highly advanced potion it cannot be duplicated by the Magical Pumpkin.

The Prince and his Date-scapades
To help the Prince in his search for a kindred spirit:
• Read 3 books on or about courtship or dating (fiction or nonfiction—he’s open-minded).
1 Ladies in Hating 9/4/2025
2 Falling Like Leaves 8/25/2025
3 Love at First Sighting 8/11/2025
• Read 2 books written in prose that include a quoted poem or song (minimum four lines). The Prince insists his Heart & Heir profile must include at least one sincere stanza—and no, it can’t be about potatoes again. Slightly offended by the potato comment, you decide to share the poems in the Local Tavern to gauge whether they’re romantic enough based on the patrons’ reactions. (Don’t forget to share the poems for this task to be complete.)
1 The Revolving Door of Life 1/3/2025
2 he Revolving Door of Life 1/3/2025 duplicated
The remarkable thing about love
Is that it is freely available
Is as plentiful as oxygen
Is as joyous as a burn in spate
And need never run out.
• Read a book where a character suffers from social anxiety but manages to befriend someone—whether the relationship turns romantic or remains platonic.
A Hexcellent Chance to Fall in Love 9/2/2025
• Gather 3 Roses—take a flattering picture of the Prince while he’s scenting the flowers. It’ll make a smashing profile picture.
Use 3 roses
• Read a book that genuinely satisfied you—one that earned a 5-star rating. You won’t know beforehand, of course—but that’s the beauty (and gamble) of dating someone you’ve never met. Rowan wants examples with positive outcomes. (This book must be fresh, that means read after the quest was published)
You Are Fatally Invited 1/17/2025
Success! With your help, Rowan sends off his profile—tastefully illustrated, mildly poetic, and entirely sincere. Several responses arrive within a week, including one from a charming Paperville prince and another from a Kindletopia princess who’s also allergic to large crowds. Rowan is quietly thrilled. Courtship might not be so terrifying after all.
Your reward: 15 XP and the satisfaction of being such a good wingman—or wingwoman.

To banish the ballroom bone brigade, complete these tasks:
1. The Skeleton Key – Read a book where hidden doors or a secret room are involved.
We Won't All Survive 6/17/2025
2. Brittle Bones – Read a book where a main character is recovering from injury.
The Enchanted Greenhouse 7/17/2025

You did it! The castle is once again skeleton-free. Nick the Necromancer is grateful for your help in containing the bony bedlam, and rewards you with 5 XP and 3 Potion Tokens.

Sir Bargainbeak has a list of rare books he’s searching for. All books must have fewer than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads at the time you started reading them.

2. Secrets of the Lost – Read a book about a lost civilization or forgotten place. Barbarian Alien 8/31/2025
3. The Fabled Tome – Read a book that prominently features a particular book. The Library Game 3/18/25 duplicated
4. Epicurean Adventures – Read a book with food or cooking as an important theme. (“Even knights need to eat!” Sir Bargainbeak squawks.) Sour Crime Donuts 8/27/2025 (50 ratings)
5. Feathered Friends – Read a book with a bird on the cover or a bird featured prominently in the story. Bargainbeak insists this is a personal favorite.

6. The Discount Diamond – Read a book you acquired for under $5 that feels like a rare and priceless treasure to you. The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime Writer 9/3/2025 (384 ratings)

Fred the Magician, in a dazzling display of poor judgement and overconfidence, has once again set part of the castle ablaze—this time incinerating half his beginner spell scroll collection. It might have been avoidable had he not stored them next to a mountain of Phoenix Feathers and a barrel clearly marked “Definitely Not Flammable (Probably).”
To help salvage the situation—and prevent Fred from “testing fireproofing spells” on the castle drapes—you’ve been asked to assist in reconstructing the lost scrolls. The information can still be found, scattered across spellcasting manuals, old wizard memoirs, and books teeming with magical mayhem. Restoring the scrolls will aid future adventurers… and buy time while someone discreetly relocates Fred’s half-built fire golem to somewhere with fewer curtains.
Search for the lost knowledge in:
1. Spellcasting manuals: Read a book where a main character chants, sings, or recites a poem.
The Love Lyric 2/4/25
2. Wizard memoirs: Read a memoir or biography of a “performer” — actor, singer, comedian, magician, dancer, etc.
Yes Please 4/16/15 - duplicated
3. Books Infused by Magic: Read three books that have a Main Page Genre of Fantasy, Magic, or Magical Realism.
Needy Little Things 1/26/25 - magical realism
Cookies and Clairvoyance 2/5/25 - magic, fantasy
Six Stunning Sirens 4/16/25 - magic, fantasy
Success!
The scrolls have been restored, just in time for the next class of bright-eyed adventurers. Fred is tremendously grateful—though he’s now muttering something about “lightning-proof ink.” Your Reward: 1 XP + 5 Ember Shards.
