The most important thing of all, Bob--"a good year for reading". I am always promising myself to read the books I have and not buy or borrow anything new, but then things keep pointing me toward books I don't already have. Kudos to you for sticking to your plan!

Due to water damage, I’ve been forced to go through closets getting rid of damaged items. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with the contents of a box and I have come across some long-forgotten things. I just found two books that I do not remember buying or recognize ever seeing before.

One is Ghost Stories from the American South. It does not look like a collection of anything published, but a collection of handed down folklore and legend. It could be really interesting.

The second is Stories of the Modern South. This is a collection of twenty five stories by twenty five different authors. I am super happy about finding this one. I am familiar with eight of the authors represented, but I have not read any of the stories.

I have already finished my Short Story challenge, but I'm sure I will add some of these new stories before the end of the year.

I'm glad you were able to salvage something from the water that will prove interesting to you. I'm really sorry to hear you are dealing with this, Bob, and hope the damage is not too extensive. I dealt with a flooded basement once, long ago, and remember it as a particularly horrid experience.

Kathleen | 5466 comments Water can be surprisingly destructive! Glad you made a happy discovery with it, Bob. :-) They both look interesting.

I looked up the Stories of the Modern South, and it looks really interesting, You're right that there are some familiar authors there, but I don't recognize the particular stories. That sounds fun, Sorry about the water problems.

From this year’s buffet I planned on completing six challenges. To date I have completed four and most likely will not complete the last two. It is now time to regret my not allowing myself to use the same book in multiple challenges. Without that self-inflicted rule I would be finished with challenge #4. This would leave me only two books left to finish challenge #1.

I haven’t given up and will focus on the remaining challenge needs till the end of the year. I have a slim chance, time will tell.

Do what you can and what you enjoy, Bob. A new year is just around the corner and as Anne of Green Gables would tell you, "no mistakes in it yet".

Laurie | 1895 comments It is tough to do multiple challenges and not allow a book to count for more than one. I admire your goal to read separate books for each. As long as you have enjoyed your reading, that's all that matters.

Four challenges and counting is a good total! Nice job so far.
