Candi (candih) | 673 comments Classics Bingo 2021

The goal is to focus your reading on literary classics.

Read a classic that fits the description of a square. You may NOT count the same book twice for different categories in this challenge. Each book can be applied to only one square, even if it fulfills the requirements of multiple squares. All books read to mark off squares must be finished in 2021.

Challenge Levels:
Level One Bingo
Four Corners: Mark off the four outside corners of the Bingo board.
OR
Five-in-a-Row: Mark off five squares in a row. This can be done horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Level Two Bingo
Small Box: Mark off all the 9 inner squares of the board (including the free square), leaving blank the 16 outside border squares.

Level Three Bingo
Outside Box: Mark off all 16 of the outer squares, leaving blank the 9 inner squares.

Level Four Bingo
Blackout! Mark off all twenty-five squares of the board.

Candi (candih) | 673 comments I never get much more than a single bingo every year, but this challenge always gets me reading more classics, even if I'm all over the board (so to speak!)

It's fun to fill in some slots ahead of time and then adapt as I go along :)

Lori, I'm really happy to see you here participating in the challenge too! I don't purposely work towards getting a bingo, it just kind of happens and that makes me plenty happy if I've read some good books in the process :)

I've been lucky with some amazing books, Kathleen, and owe it all to friends and groups and challenges that make me really consider my reading carefully! Can't wait to see what you delve into next year too :)

Veronique | 1154 comments Such different books. Great reviews, the first one being especially powerful. Sometimes, as you say, it is the feeling(s) you get from reading a book that permeates everything. I experienced something similar with The Remains of the Day.

Not sure I want to try The Snow was Dirty (not in the right frame of mind), although you do make it sound very interesting. I am however even more determined to read Crime & Punishment and The Talented Mr Ripley :O)

Thanks so much, Veronique. I've been really pleased with my selections so far this year. I have yet to read The Remains of the Day, which I've been anticipating to be very affecting as well. I'm happy to hear you found it to be so.

I'd recommend both Crime and Punishment as well as the Ripley book! It all depends on whether you're in the mood for some Russian literature versus something a bit "lighter" :D

Thanks for the encouragement. I have decided to give priority to my challenges this year also. I hate when it gets down to the end and I have too many unfinished.
