If there are any Reddittors among us ... I just found a subreddit dedicated to photos of people's bookshelves!

r/bookshelf

It's given a wealth of options for me!!

Eric | 11 comments I'm looking at fewer bookshelves in the age of COVID-19 and virtual interactions. Apparently my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I was having trouble with blurry bookshelves on TV or video.

In the image at the top of this article...

...there are a few good choices from different genres (even though the article title is ridiculous). I am a sucker for unique book titles, and chose One Man's Meat by E.B. White.

Nicole | 97 comments During the first Lock down in march some neighbors and I started to run an open bookshelf where everyone can bring and take books as they want.

Its not a specific persons bookshelf, but I think that counts anyways.

Emily A. | 20 comments The dream is to find a copy of Unity Mitford by David Pryce-Jones that I saw on a videochat/tour with Patti LuPone (it also was featured in a NYT piece on bookshelves).

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Alas, it's very expensive and out of print.

I got curious and searched for it.
There are a few used ones on Abebooks here for around $15

this one looks not that bad.

Brandon Harbeke | 698 comments A couple notable books on Dolly Parton's shelf are Kindred and The Little Engine That Could. This was on a Marie Claire shelf tour on YouTube.

message 61: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 136 comments Luckily for me, my sisters have a ton of books on their shelves that I want to read, and one of them owns every Terry Pratchett book, and I'm currently working through the Discworld series, so this has all come together for me! So I'm going for Small Gods. (I couldn't tell you exactly where it is in her house, and I haven't seen her shelves since October 2019, but neither of those things are included in the prompt!)

Thanks for sharing--think I'll go with The City We Became by Jemisin--have had it on my nightstand for a couple months now.

I LOVE the idea of asking for a few feet of books in a certain category! How exciting to see what I would get!! If I were rich, I would do this to entertain myself.

Ha The Thornbirds was the first thing I thought of!

message 69: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 576 comments When I saw this I immediately thought of American Dirt since it was the only thing I remember seeing on a news anchors bookshelf.

Someone above mentioned Oprah's books and I hadn't thought of that. While it has been a while since these were on TV they all have been. So, it gives me another excuse to actually read one of those plus, it really opens up my options.

I also have been keeping track of Reese's book club as well. Now I just got to actually get to reading.

message 77: by Jacqie (new)

Jacqie I did The Midnight Library for this one since I've seen it on Goodreads bookshelves, including for this group! I thought it started strong and got simplistic towards the end.

message 78: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 782 comments I used The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Someone saw it on Seth Myers table. Every time I see a bookcase in the background I run up close to the TV but can never read the title of the books.

message 79: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 268 comments I chose to read Slum Wolf. I saw it on a friend's bookshelf. I assumed it would be a fiction or a historical book, but it turned out to be a graphic novel and introduced me to the great manga artist Tadao Tsuge.
