Terris | 4388 comments I like your list, Lexi! You have some really good ones there! I am also interested in reading Scaramouche. I'll watch for your comments! Enjoy your 2021 reading! :)

Luke (korrick) I also have 'Scaramouche' down for 2021 challenges, although it's for my Bingo (really don't have a lot of adventure stuff on my shelves). It'll be interesting to see what we both think of it.

Lexi I finished Scaramouche and enjoyed it a lot more than I did Captain Blood. It was an enjoyable adventure story and I enjoyed it even if I think Rafael Sabatini really struggles to write female characters. I meant to read it in January so I want to try another one this month, just not sure which one next.

Glad to hear your take on this, Lexi. I think my reading of Scaramouche will go pretty smoothly now that I'm aware of its strengths and weaknesses.

I added Scaramouche some time ago to the TBR and then promptly forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. Looking forward to your take on some of your other choices.

Lexi Read my February book with Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang by Kate Wilhelm. It really wasn't for me. It was quite dated and had the usual cold warm pro-individualism take you get. Also, I could have done without all the incest and (view spoiler). Anyways, if you want weird late 70s sci-fi, especially by a woman, may I suggest Dreamsnake instead.

Lexi Started Leaves of Grass as a book on tape. I will now get to listen to Walt Whitman on my daily walk for the next month. This may be a bit much.

Edited: 5/7 - DNF - I just can't deal with how long this as and the tone. I have read excerpts and that is good enough.

Lexi Also, forgot to post that I read A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, which I enjoyed the beginning more than the end. The religious preaching section got really long and I felt the end just kind of dropped off.

Lexi I listened to Journey to the Center of the Earth and it was good. I always have a little issue with Jules Verne's pacing but it is one of my favorites of his so far.
