Hayjay315 | 465 comments I'm more behind on this one than I want to be; but currently at the 60 pg. mark. I'm enjoying reading about all the reactions and hullabaloo caused by Alan's disappearance. I can't help but compare his character to Backman's Ove; and I'm not as invested early on as I was with Ove.

Karin | 9232 comments I enjoyed this book both times I read it, but won't be reading it this time. 4 stars both times for me.

Backman's humour and writing is an entirely different kettle of fish, IMO, and I like both of them. True, they are both Swedish and there is a Swedish feel to both of them, but for me that's about it :), rather like two American humour writers who both are very American but different. I don't like all Swedish satire, though.

Booknblues | 12090 comments I'm not racing through this but plodding steadily along. It is entertaining, but a bit to peril's of Pauline. I'm ready to reach the end, so will plow through this weekend.

Shelly | 939 comments I found this book to be funny and enjoyable, but kinda farcical. Backman's humor is far more realistic. Ove tugged at my hearstrings much more.

I don't think this book was intended to be realistic, which for me was part of the fun of it.

Indeed! Loved the way historical people and events were woven into the story.

There's a sequel, which I also liked, but it is over a far shorter period of time so is somewhat different.
