Elizabeth (Alaska) I forget the rule for:

Anton Chekhov
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov

I know all of the books need to be on Anton Chekhov. Can I just merge the authors or do I need to make the Pavlovich one secondary?

Any edition that has Anton Pavlovich Chekhov on its cover needs to have it as a secondary author.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Thank you!

Keith (kgf0) | 377 comments Allied questions:

1. Do we retain additional author profiles for published misspellings as well? To keep the example parallel, if the cover says "Antin Pavlovich Checkov" would we merge that to "Anton Pavlovich Chekhov" (which, BTW, has already disappeared, probably merged into Anton Chekhov") or just add "Anton Chekov" as Primary and retain Antin as Secondary?

2. Every once in a while, Kessinger or Forgotten Books puts a book out with the wrong author name on the cover (often attributing to a later translator or editor whom we would normally treat as a secondary author). Is there an "official" way to handle these?

Yes, we do. F.e., Jane Austen is sometimes misspelled as Jane Austin. Any editions that have a misspelled author name on the cover should have the misspelling as secondary author, and preferably, a link to the correct spelling in the author bio.

Yes, we do."

Thanks, lethe, good to know. That’ll shift some of the work I’ve been doing, but may make some of the work on Tibetan Authors a little less Sisyphean.

Elizabeth (Alaska) The longer name in Post #1 appears to have been merged as that author no longer exists.

Posting a request on an existing discussion about policies (and other authors) is confusing. Please start a new thread instead.

I found the merges on the Author Librarian edits page and fixed the editions as needed.

Do we also retain additional author profiles if the misspelled name was never on the cover art? i.e. It was only misspelled on Goodreads?

No, only if its on the cover. It's so people can find the book on GR, if they have the book and go looking for it.
