Badseedgirl | 1033 comments Just about finished my 2nd book for this challenge. Well technically, I have finished the book and and getting ready to complete my review. I may increase my challenge number, I'm considering it.

Thank you so much for starting this challenge. It was the kick in the pants I needed to tackle my TBR pile in a meaningful way. I have already completed 3 books which have been on my TBR list an average of 4 years. I have always joked that I love to read books of questionable taste (sometimes I say crap) and am in no hurry to do it!

message 108: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments So I decided to double my challenge from 15 to 30. This is a desperation move because I have already added more than 30 new books to my TBR list since this challenge started!

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I have not forgotten about you Mount TBR Challenge, but this is why my TBR list has gotten so out of hand. I have spent the last month reading all sorts of random books I loved or hated, but were not on any list. I have promised to get back to you and that is why I have started Going Bovine by Libba Bray.

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I have completed 16 books off my TBR list so far this year, which surpassed my original goal (15 books) and puts me over the half way point of my adjusted goal, 30 books.

It is so easy to get derailed by all the new books being published and hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered. I wish I had documented my TBR list number when I started this challenge, but I'm sure the number has gone up and not down in spite of my efforts. My Goodreads TBR pile sits at 878 right now.

This challenge got me moving to read several books that had been sitting on my shelf glaring at me for the past few years. And I've really enjoyed several of them including Sleeping Beauties and The Fourth Monkey.
Now I'm reading Serenity Falls and for a very long book, it reads fast and has a pretty dang good story.
I'm hoping a few more of the books coming off my tbr list are as good these.

Ginger | 3903 comments Badseedgirl and WendyB, I’m like you both!
This challenge has really helped me to whittle down some books that I’ve wanted to read for years.
I finally read Anna Karenina, Night Film and House of Leaves! I’m working on Swan Song at the moment.

I’m really glad the HA group decided to do this challenge this year. I feel like I’m making some progress finally on my TBR list. 🤣😂

I agree Serenity Falls is an excellent book. I'm currently reading the expanded version that was split into novels Writ in Blood, The Pack, and Dark Carnival. James A. Moore is one of my favorite authors and his Jonathan Crowley books are fantastic.

I was thinking this doorstopper of a book was the three books combined into one. LOL
Doesn't matter. I'm really enjoying it but I agree with some of the reviews about the typos. They don't spoil the story for me but some of them make me wonder if the book had an editor at all.

I’ve been happy with them all as well for very different reasons.
I think that I just didn’t get around to them because most are door stoppers! 🤣😂

Elysa (ebees) | 35 comments This is my first time doing this! My TBR list was so long I broke it into "Want to read" and "Might read" and each have wayy too many books.

It's likely I'll do more than 20 though, as I've already read a few of these and it's possible my book clubs will pick my TBR books.

For now, here is what I'd like to add to this years challenge:
1. The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure by Jonathan Haidt (READ)
2. The Last Conversation by Paul Tremblay (READ)
3. The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle (READ)
4. Let Me Tell You: New Stories, Essays, and Other Writings by Shirley Jackson (READ)
5. The Paper Magician by Charlie Holmberg (READ)
6. Educated by Tara Westover (READ)
7. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (READ)
8. The Selection by Kiera Cass (READ)
9. Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari (READ)
10. Lolita - Vladimir Nobokov
11. Bleak: A Story of Bullying, Rage, and Survival - Benjamin Honeycutt
12. Dream Date - Sinclair smith
13. Olive Kitteridge - Elizabeth Strout (READ)
14. Wild Seed - Octavia E. Butler
15. The Pearl That Broke Its Shell - Nadia Hashimi (READ)
16. The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice
17. Final Girls - Riley Sager
18. A Room with a View - E. M. Forster (READ)
19. Mistborn: The Final Empire - Brandon Sanderson
20. Them: Why We Hate Each Other - and How to Heal - Ben Sasse (READ)

Finished this challenge with Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield a very charming story. Not horror but so worth reading.

I read so many books this year that sat on my shelves for far too long and so many were well worth reading. Glad this challenge got me to pick them up and give them a chance.
