I was very disappointed in these stats when I looked at them. And then, a couple of days later, as I was updating my spreadsheet for 2021, I noticed I'd accidentally read from several different countries in the first week of January. I decided to make it a project to continue reading only one book from each country. I didn't really have a goal in mind, just to keep going while I had books on my TBR that fit and I had easy access to.

Then I noticed that I'd also accidentally started reading a lot of translated fiction, so I made that a secondary project within my country project, to only read one book per original language, excluding English, since I'd already read more than one written in English. And the more I read, the more the stats pleased me, and I created a monster.

Eventually I planned on continuing until the end of January, but two things happened. First, I noticed that if I chose the next few books very carefully, the graphs would look extremely organized. Then I bought a book on sale and liked it so much that I want to continue the series today, and that would obviously ruin this beautiful thing. So, here are my 2021 reading stats up to and including today:

(full size)

I love that Google ran out of colors for the countries :P

I don't really have goals for how I want this to look at the end of 2021, but I'd ideally like to keep US authors to under 50%, and translated books to at least 10%.

In case someone was going to ask:

Assuming this was a new Internet-ism, I looked it up.... UFF
Oxford German Dictionary says it's an interjection meaning Oof!

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Turns out a lot of the translated fiction on my TBR was litfic around 200 pages, most available on Storytel. Also, I've skipped* at least five nights in January, that's like fifteen extra days in audiobooks :D

* meaning I didn't even try to sleep

Oh and also, I've tried to spend at least one day per week in bed eye-reading, like I said I wanted to do, so that also adds up!

Mel | 509 comments Wow Anna, that's some impressive looking data! *eyes sparkle*
While authors countries isn't an active goal this year, I am tracking them to keep myself aware. So far I have 4 countries/ 7 books. Partly inspired by this thread, and the annoyance of having to go back and tally at the end of the year, this is actually the first year I've put diversity data into a spreadsheet to track as I go.

And goodness, you and Soo and audiobook readers in general are so voracious! I wish I could do audio, to be able to gobble up more books that way. :)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Tracking as you go is amazing when you're trying to change habits! I don't want to add any more things to track, but I'm sure if i did, I'd find something else I'd want to change :D
